Friday tries to do all he can for Monroe as mayor but it seems like the city council will throw him a road block every chance they get. It is like they want Monroe to fail just so they can see him fail. It’s got to be a kick in the nuts on a daily basis and it is politics at its finest. I commend him for not just walking away from it.

Monroe was at rock bottom so it had nowhere to go but up.

Eh I wouldn't say it was at rock bottom it was just stagnant with corrupt leadership. It was trending even further down in Mayo's last few years. I didn't realize how much of a difference a motivated mayor could make in a city/town. Friday Ellis has been an absolute gamechanger.

You neglected to include a particular element abundant in Louisiana that repopulates without contributing to the positive evolution of mankind.

More abundant in Mississippi and they are light years ahead

Compare LA to MS and AL

If you are referencing either black or white trash, both states have large populations of both and are improving/beating LA in progress

Jesus, are you 30? It's this generation, the last generation, and the generation before that, all the way back to at least Huey Long. Nothing in the state has gotten reasonably better ever since I first arrived more than 30 years ago.

Closed primaries *might* help, but the people generally never learn, they have to leave.

Meth is the main business usually headquartered in the hood.
City marshals are on the take and never arrest anyone in these areas.
Pop up 'ministries' are used for money laundering the give blessings back to the congregations.

Yes, this is easy - it’s New Orleans! The Destroya had it so messed up that all the new mayor had to do to improve it is get sworn in.

I’ve been back in Lafayette for 9 years now and it seems pretty stable over that period. I would say it’s slowing moving in a positive direction, definitely haven’t noticed any regression.

Ruston

Ruston and Natchitoches are both off an interstate and have a university. They really should be ahead of where they currently are. Good to see Ruston is booming but this should have been the case 25 years ago. Same with Natchitoches.

Does Mandeville/Covington count? It’s a separate metro area from NOLA nowadays, so it’s no longer the burbs in the eyes of the Census Bureau. Not enough commuters going across the causeway anymore.

Ruston is a pretty obvious one. I’d also argue Thibodaux and Hammond have improved in the last 20 years or so. I had never really been to downtown Hammond until recently and was surprised how good it looked.

In the BR area, New Roads/St. Francisville are definitely improving in their own ways. But can’t really call those cities, I guess.

Been in Lafayette since 2013. I remember when there was basically nothing but Our Lady of Lourdes/Women’s and Children’s, Cardoba/Providence medical office suites, and Super One on Ambassador/Ambassador Ext south of Kaliste Saloom.

Nothing in that Whole Foods strip. Nothing at all in the Costco development. Camellia between Verot and Kaliste Saloom was all cow pastures. Ambassador ext was all pastures/sugar cane fields.

Things have exploded in the last 5-8 years. I worry now it’s going to get too big for its own good. I know parents who are second guessing sending their kids to YSC because the traffic is getting out of control for afternoon practices.

With that said, we are happy in Youngsville/Broussard area for now.
