Are the people riding out Irma in the keys going to survive?

I mean those islands don't have much elevation and I just can't see many of them surviving this.

Nope. Bodies will float onto the beach in Destin next week

Prayers sent, this is a death and destruction event.

Highest elevation is 18 ft. 10 foot storm surge plus waves could easily top that.

It still blows my mind that people chose to stay in the Keys

Like I just can't imagine what makes them want to stay. I watched a video and this one black chick was in a small house and said she was riding it out there and didn't care what people had to say.

Honestly if you stayed in the keys I'm not sure you deserve to make it

The worst part, in many of these areas, the houses are stucco on Wood. They will snap and break like twigs.

People staying in the keys? Idiots

Some news guy had to sign a waiver to stay at a Key West hotel.
And was given earplugs to withstand the wind sounds.

People rode out Katrina and survived down in Venice and Port Sulphur. You wouldn't catch me doing that, but it's not certain death.
They'll probably be isolated for a while if they do survive.

For those who have Snapchat, pinch with two fingers on the "take picture" screen. That pulls up the map. Go over to Key West where there are a bunch of unconcerned people Snapchatting away Iike they are not very concerned that a giant hurricane is heading straight for them.
ETA most of the videos are people filming the bad weather like "here comes Irma!" Probably should at the very least be battening down the hatches. One snap was this guy and his buddy debating on whether or not to surf

I would have to question someone's intelligence if they are staying in the keys for this storm.

So mandatory evacuations don't mean doodly then? I never see people being arrested for not obeying something mandatory.

They say "mandatory" so the people can't sue the government when help doesn't show up.

Mandatory mostly means that the first responders aren't coming to help you when shite hits the fan.

Can the government be sued even if they didn't issue a mandatory order? That's a new one on me considering weather disasters.
