Was in the Keys back during Spring Break. Plenty of nameless in Key West!! Hope they got out!!

This storm was overhyped. It was a beast at one point but the deadliest winds are in a very narrow circumference and the storm surge isn't that bad. There will be property damage but nothing compared to Andrew.

Hmm.. Maybe you're right. Let's see.
200,000 people already without power
Cranes already falling in Miami
Complete and utter devastation of several Caribbean islands
The storm is as large as the entire state of Florida
It is already tied for the #7 most intense storm on record
It hasn't even made mainland Florida landfall yet
Nope, pretty sure you don't have a fricking clue what you're talking about.

It's no Andrew.

You're right.
It's about twice the size of Andrew

Go over to Key West where there are a bunch of unconcerned people Snapchatting away Iike they are not very concerned that a giant hurricane is heading straight for them.
Just checked it out. Idiots standing outside in 100 mph winds. I'm waiting for someone to get taken out by a flying palm.

The storm has lost intensity, rainfall and storm surge predictions have been lowered.
Andrew struck Florida as a Cat 5. Size means little, the area of high winds, degree of winds and storm surge/precipitation are far more important.
Irma isn't the same Hurricane it was a few days ago. You can bitch, curse all you want, but it's true.
There will be damage, but the people riding Irma out are going to be ok.

To what end are they staying? What makes them think getting off is an option?
It looks like it went right over Marathon Key. What makes anyone think that span of bridges will be standing when this is over?

You are off base, Rush.

They will
The media makes these storms out to be way more than they actually are

No contest there.
You said the storm was overhyped? That's some media-fed echo chamber bullshite.
Yeah, sure, people will be "ok," as in most will survive the actual immediate impact of storm.
But some people WILL get stranded.
Some people WILL have to get rescued.
Some people WILL be without power for days/weeks possibly months.
That's your tax dollars hard at work. I say, frick that, if you're badass enough to stay, then you're badass enough to survive on your own after with no help from us.

The storm has been degrading for three days. You're the simple guy who thinks size is the end all for Hurricanes.

Good God the ignorance here is stifling.
Yup, definitely the media's fault.
EVERYONE MOVE ON, NOTHING TO SEE HERE, IGNORE THE WIND/RAIN/WATER. THE MEDIA OVERHYPED THE STORM, THAT'S ALL.
I guess the media overhyped Harvey too? Overhyped the flooding in Baton Rouge last year?
I'm so sick of it.
YOU IDIOTS ARE THE REASON PEOPLE FEEL EMPOWERED TO STAY.
Don't even get me started on fricking Rush. He started this "over hyped" bullshite and then promptly evacuated.
Yeah. Definitely overhyped. That's why he left town.
Absolutely fricking unbelievable.

Do you disagree? So, you think it's not in the best interest of media who rely on viewers to overhype weather events? They're naming fricking snowstorms.

Whos talking about fricking snowstorms?
I'm taking about the 7th strongest hurricane on record.
What do you possibly have to gain by saying the media overly hyped the storm before it even hits fricking land. If you want to have this conversation AFTER and there's minimum damage and 0 deaths, then okay. That's perfectly fine and maybe even a valid point. But before? What, you've got a crystal ball, you are the great decider of storm intensity?
For what it's worth, in a weird way, I actually hope you're right. But there's just no way to know yet.
Consider the consequences man. I know you're not the originator of the media storm hype premise, but what do you have to gain by spreading some bullshite like this? Literally nothing.
And what do those people have to lose if they believe some as yet unprovable statement spread around the internet? Literally everything.
You want to know why I'm worked up? Thousands of people believe the same bullshite you do. They're in Florida. Riding it out. Cause the storm was all "hype." And my fricking tax dollars are gonna have to pay to get in and get them out.
But guess that's no big deal, the US has plenty of money right now.
frick it. Whatever. Believe what you want. It's too late for anyone to evacuate now. May God have mercy on your souls.
I've had enough OT for one day. Goodbye and GFY.

Man, you don't understand how storms work. This hurricane has degraded for several days. Its now a Cat 4.
Do you even know what that is?
