The Ouachita Mountainsare a broad mountain range like an upside down U shape (looking to the north). They emerge from the coastal plain in Oklahoma and go east until they go under the coastal plain there.

The mountains in Oklahoma are a lot drier; Arkansas biota is wetter.

There aren't that many north south roads across them. The peaks in the Ouachitas are deep water-deposited cherts which used to be the source of knife sharpening stones.

That part of the world hasn't been 'open' to civilizations for very long (not even two centuries).

North of the Ouachitas are more mountains (but not thrust faulted) and they are more of a tourist destination.

I give Arkansas credit for having some very nice state parks in the mountain areas.

Just got back from Lake Ouachita. Utopia for a person who resides in Shreveport.

Went there as a kid with my family and camped. One of the best trips ever. Beautiful clear lake. We were out there snorkeling. Lol. Got to see Brim beds. Just amazing views.

Fun fact: only mountain range in us that goes east/west

Santa Ynez Mountains say, “what you talking bout?”

ETA: Why the down vote? This “fun” fact was in fact not a fact at all.

Lake Ouchita is one of my favorite places on earth. The lake is crystal clear, and always a great temperature. You can fish, ski, float, camp...whatever and be surrounded by some stunning scenery

Where does Mr Clean fit in here? He has to be part of some sub plot? Dumb people have their place too.

I take my vacations to the wonderful scene of the Southside of Monroe. Lots of unknowns to explore down there

Monroe had a great zoo.

The trains and boats were great rides.
