Are stolen iPhones ever recovered?

My teen’s iPhone was stolen from Stage in Plaquemine. A customer identified one of the 3 people that picked it up by name. We reported it stolen and provided that name to the police within half an hour. I’m not expecting it to actually be recovered, but I’m hoping the assholes will at least be charged with theft if they are on surveillance video taking it. My question is, will the police actually bother with this? Or are phones so commonly stolen that they won’t waste time pursuing it?

They will put their best men on the case.
Not really. That phone has been wiped and is probably already sold.

I'm sure the DA is going to go all in on this conviction.
Your best hope is a officer is willing to go out of his way to ask for the phone back.

Why would cops waste time on this when they could be writing tickets which actually creates revenue?

my wife had hers stolen a few weeks ago, we reported it to Bham, they told us to file a report in Hoover where it was likely stolen
find my phone gave us an address in West Bham, same address several days in a row
the Bham police did not care
buy a new phone and be more careful moving forward

What you need is a detective with a vendetta... for stolen iPhones.

Happened to me at Walmart at the self checkout register
I called EBRSO within 20 minutes
They took a report, got phone SN & copy of Walmart receipt (time stamp)
Never heard from them

An iPhone? They have more important things to do. Now, a Galaxy Note? They'll pursue all the leads they have.

Canot even leave a north face in a room these days.
I left a shitty phone charger and jacket in aberdee, sd Hampton. They didn't find it. I did it on purpose.

The cops don't want to go to Ensley either.

If it’s an iPhone then the phone is a brick without the proper unlock code. Even if they wipe it is iCloud locked to your account. It’s only good for parts. You can put it into lost mode with a message on the screen. Offer a small reward and maybe they will bite.

Go vigilante.
Find out where it is using FindMyIphone, track them down and then go get it back.

Your only hope is to find a cop who is bored enough to try to find it.
Most of them are too busy to do much more than take a report and put it into their database as stolen.

I get they can’t chase every property crime ever but has surprised me how little interest police seem to have in phones.
They are worth a good bit, even ignoring all the risk of personal data and access if you can get on it. Then roll in the variety of security features that sometimes make it incredibly easy to locate.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone say cops jumped on it.

If it were one of their phones then the cops would be all over it.
Make no mistake, the lack of concern is because it doesn't benefit them.
I am sure they can tell you all about the broken windows theory though.
