When I lived in East TN I met several people with brain cancer from Kingsport. The town surrounds a huge chemical plant called Eastman.

The water is not the problem in BR. The air is.

With all the illegal dumping of chemical waste in Louisiana that pollutes our water. It probably doesn't matter where you live.

I thought Baton Rouge has really good water? Seriously, wasn't it ranked high on a national list?

BR's water is extremely clean, it comes from an aquifer far away from the plants.

It's the Mississippi River water that New Orleans and much of the River Parishes get their drinking water from that is polluted as all get out.

The air quality is what plants have a big impact on, and even then, not as much of an impact as all of those burning cane fields.

I am not sure if he is thinking the same thing, but he does bring up a good point. With all the waste that comes out of these plants, it seems like it would get into the water at some point.

When I was a kid the Iberville-Ascension corridor was known as "Cancer Alley"

Now with BR's current demographics people are moving there. I guess cancer is preferable.

Hmmmmm... (scratches chin thoughtfully)

This was years ago, but I remember there was a time when the Mississippi River was really low and by Dow, you could see a pipe that went through the bottom of the levee and it was just steadily pouring out shite into the river.

Southern LA gets dumped on by the dirtiest water in the world. A little air pollution is the least of your worries.

I took a class called “Pollution in the Environment” in grad school that was pretty much an upper level chemistry class with case study after case study debating this question.

It was pretty terrifying.
