Last weekend, I bought nearly 800 grams of sterling silver for a great price.
I sold a few pieces on eBay for $150+, leaving me with 712 grams of silver. I did get a few offers of silver value of the pieces, but I would have to pay eBay fees, so I figured I’d sell it myself.
I walk into a pawn shop and ask if they pay market value for silver. He says yes. So I wait 20-30 minutes as he weighs them and does computer work. He comes back with an offer of $250. I said no, that’s not market value. He then says $300 is the best he could do. I again tell him that’s not market value. It should be around $375. He said ¢.40 a gram is the best he could pay. I asked him why did he say he pays market value, his reply was his offer is his offer. He said something smart arse (I forget what, but something along the lines of he wasn’t the one trying to pawn silver).
I called him a fricking liar and crook, walked out.

Who buys silver at market value in BR?

Maybe he doesnt want your silver atm. Why upset that someone didn't purchase your goods?

No offense, but why would you expect him to pay market value when he has to sell it and make a profit to stay in business?

Last weekend, I bought nearly 400 grams of sterling silver for a great price.
I sold a few pieces on eBay for $150+, leaving me with 712 grams of silver.

400-x=712??

if you sold -312 grams of silver for $150, you might be the crook.

He wanted the silver, just he was trying to rip me off. Unlike most of his customers, I don’t need the money.

Lol. I’m not defending the guy by any means, but obviously you don’t know how a pawn shop works. They don’t pay market value for anything. Lol

You bought 400 grams, sold some, and had 712 grams left? Hmmm, something doesn’t add up. Maybe the pawn owner was onto you and your snake oil.

If he pays market value he cannot sell it and make a profit. His sole way to make money is buy low and sell high.

I get the point is that you asked him ahead of time if he bought at market value....but the only way you will ever get market value for anything is selling it yourself. Works that way for just about anything. Comic books, silver, cars, anything.

Pawn shops will never pay market value. They wouldn't be in business if they did.

I'm sure he thought you were a junkie and would just low ball you. Not too many sober people roll into pawn shops with 700 grams of silver
