Infidelity would not cause a divorce for me.

It would however, cause my funeral. The 9mm is always there. In her purse. In the glove box. Behind the flour.

I would not even have time to run. No give me three steps.

That's just not reality with the modern American woman. It just isn't.

This and third legs post regarding women's modern opportunities sum it up best IMO. Women have an entirely different perspective than they did 40-50 years ago. Add to that the fact that they can achieve financial independence without their husband and the result is what we see today.

You're assuming that you're the only one who would be cheating, here.

They have more options until their late 30s. Then men have the options. Men age like wine. Women age like milk. Then they wish they had "settled".

Most divorces are due to stupidity--the stupidity of thinking you could live with that (ho or cockroach, depending on gender) for a lifetime.

If it were only that simple. Infidelity is frequently a sign of or reaction to a much more complicated issue. It is usually just a surface thing.

"The perception is that people stay together for the kid. It's really not the case. What happens is, with kids in the house, THEY become "your life" and you grow apart.

When you realize something, the kids are gone...and so is your relationship since it missed nuturing from being consumed with trying to be a good parent. The parents mean well and think they're doing what's best- and really, they are- just over-looking THEIR relationship."

Sadly, this happens all too frequently. If the male feels isolated, he goes hunting elsewhere. If the female feels ignored, she does likewise. At that point it is just a matter of time before all comes tumbling down.

I'm going to warn you: I'm being cynical.

If there is one thing I have learned in my 7 years of marriage, it requires work. Both people have to show up. One person cannot carry the burden of a relationship alone.

In 2014, what incentive do most women have to work at a relationship? Money is a very common problem. Women typically have 0 to worry about in a divorce, and barring anything crazy, they'll get a check from their husband which will really help that whole issue.

I've had two friends who's wives just up and decided they "didn't want to be married" anymore. And barring anything just crazy, they had zero chance of not being taken to the cleaners should their exes ask for it.

Money. Also, I don't think women are submissive as they once were. As for men, I don't think they're devoted as a provider as they once were. The amount of wealth we have in this country gives people options, and they don't have to rely on their spouse as much. I also think young adults are staying too connected to their parents, which causes issues.

Finances. Infidelity isn't always found out but finances are up in everybody's face.

People get divorced because they have a false idea that marriage is about their own personal happiness.

As I get older, I am getting more and more disillusioned with the idea of marriage. This of course could be that I haven't met "the one" yet, but at the same time, it seems like even "happily married" couples seem to just go through the motions after a while. I like the idea of being able to move at my own pace but understand that life could get lonely after a while.
