I have no idea what the generational allergy and autism stats are, but it just seems like millennials suffer more allergies and higher rates of Autism or "heightened sensitivity to external stimuli" than previous generations.

I think you see more allergies due to the fact that kids aren't getting dirty and exposed to germs and different foods at as much. They live in bubbles.

Actually, according to statistics, asthma and allergies are more prevalent among lower income families due to dirtier homes.

I've never heard of a gluten allergy until 2010. Since is seems like 50% of American hipsters have it.

A lot of the changes in autism are probably due to "diagnostic substitution." A lot of kids previously diagnosed with mental retardation or even just being "weird" are now diagnosed as autistic.

As far as allergies, the hygiene hypothesis could explain an increase.

a lack of early childhood exposure to infectious agents, symbiotic microorganisms (such as the gut flora or probiotics), and parasites increases susceptibility to allergic diseases by suppressing the natural development of the immune system

It looks like that is the case for food allergies which supports my thought process. Poor people don't eat real food.

Nope.

Feces from cockroaches and mice, mold, dust.

the peanut allergy boom happened because doctors started to advise parents to not give peanut butter to infants

now we know that delayed exposure to foods increased the likelihood of an allergy greatly

so you don't want your kid to be allergic to peanuts? feed them peanut butter when they are young

the increase in autism is just greater understanding and better diagnosis
