Car Makers Sued Over "Deadly" Keyless Ignition System

I agree the car should shut off if the key is X number of feet from the car, but who's dumb enough to get out of their car and not turn it off?

Yep. Just like the people that never use blinkers. That flick of the finger is just too difficult.
Hell it is called Keyless IGNITION, not Keyless Shutoff.

They should've read the manual. It says the the car will run without the key. You just cannot shift out of park. fricking morons

Is this for real? People really do this? 
FWIW, My Harley has keyless ignition, I have a fob like this instead.
But it's never occurred to me to just put down my kickstand and walk way leaving it running.

What about if the car is moving? I've dropped someone off at the airport only to realize they had the key in their pocket. Thank God the car didn't shut off while I was driving.

I leave mine running when I go into a store for a 5 min or less trip. It's too hot to turn the car off for every little stop on errand day.

or at least have some type of warning or something. if I dropped my key at work and got all the way home I'd have no way of getting back to get it

When I purchased my old Jetta with keyless ignition, the saleslman had me test drive it without the key. When I got back I asked why it was beeping at me that the key was missing, he smiled and said "thankfully you didn't stop for gas or something!"
But seriously, if you're dumb enough not to know to turn the car off, you should just go ahead and die. It's not like the car starts without pressing the button, so why would it stop.

Uh, they do. My VW would alert me to a missing key if I threw it onto the passenger seat.

This should fall under the "take all warning signs off things and let nature take it's course" idea.

It may have beeped a couple of times. It showed up on the dash, and I quickly called them to come back, but it was super busy, so I had to go around again. I can't imagine how screwed I would have been if the car had just shut down on me.
