Never really gave this thought. That blows my mind for some reason

It's learned. I went to elementary school, middle school, and high school with the same guy. He dated girls in middle school and start of high school. Switched to guys junior year. Suddenly developed a lisp when he came out as gay

There are plenty of gay men that you would never never know are gay unless you know them personally and they have no lisp.

Exactly. The one gay guy I would call a friend most people would never know he was gay unless he told you. Talks just like any straight guy, and he's a boiler maker which is a job most wouldn't think a gay guy would have.
His boyfriend you can tell immediately is gay, but they don't show PDA so you wouldn't even know they were together like that.
The only feminine thing he does is get manicures, but only women would notice that anyway. Other than that the only other hint to his sexuality if he didn't tell you is a very tiny rainbow sticker on the back of his F-250 Dually

He's cooler than most gays too, but you can ask him about anything and makes gay jokes and shite and he doesn't get all offended. He's even more conservative politically than I am.

Sidenote: his boyfriend is black, and he says thag living in the south he gets more shite for being in an interracial relationship than being gay. Apparently a lot of gays even look down at interracial relationships

One of my sister's best friends in college was gay. He was a member of a fraternity and in the closet throughout college. He came out of the closet and she said he acts completely different depending on who he's around. When he's with straigh friends from, college, he sounds like a total bro even though they know he's gay. When he's with gay people, he does speak with a lisp.

I didn't read all the replies but there's a pretty interesting documentary on Netflix (I'm pretty sure it's Netflix) called "Do I sound gay". Answers your question.

I'm gay, was in an old row fraternity at Bama and nearly everyone who meets me for the first time or doesn't know me personally assumes I'm straight.

When I'm with my gays or my girls it changes or is more relaxed. I was never aware I changed it, but it does indeed change.

My 'default' voice is like that of any typical straight guy. It is what it is.

Didn't come out till after college. At that point in life I was still in denial to myself. No regrets, college was still a blast.

Gay dude I know says he's never once gotten any shite about being gay, but that even other gay people give him tons of shite about dating a black guy.

All behavior is learned...

It's why a speech therapist can help people overcome issues like that

Maybe the pitchers don't and the catchers do?

The catchers lisp like women get boob jobs to attract the masculine ones?

I think for some they're natural, for others learned. Some people I've known since they were like 5 had the gay lisp at the very start. Gays who act straight also start acting gayer and showing their lisp more when they're with other gay people.

So it's both IMO.

Yep, I agree 100%. But it brings up another thought.

When I spend time in the South, my accent gets a little thicker. Get me in a place like Florida or Colorado, and it fades away. There could be a few gay people that may subconsciously speak with a lisp.

Don't know about the lisps, but I saw two dudes kiss each other on the street in Philadelphia yesterday and wanted to puke.
