Don't know if they are scams, tend to doubt it really, but I hate like hell getting those things shoved in my mouth when they do them. They do have that machine that travels around your head and doesn't require that but my last dentist preferred to do both

Let me give you some advice. Stop going to the dentist. It is just a racket.

insurance will pay for dental X-rays once a year and cleaning twice a year. Guess how many of each your dentist will schedule. I started refusing the X-rays a while back. Seems like once every few years or if issues is enough.

Why would you not use your insurance benefits? If insurance will pay for it, I could really care less if it’s needed or not.
Pay too damn much per month for the LaBCBS to not make them spend some money on my arse.

Yes it’s a scam. One time they threatened to not let me see the dentist at the end of my appointment if I didn’t get an X-ray even though the X-ray looks the same every time. They got their fancy machine that has 300 payments left on it so they need to use it on every person who walks in the door.

Paying 5+ dental hygienist ($40+/hr plus benefits) girls ain't cheap. Then the dentist is probably paying alimony and child support to the EX also.

OP use of "scam" is wrong. Should you pay for something that isn't needed? NO.
These dental/medical practices love the fact that so many people put them up on a pedestal. Go along with whatever they say and not to question shite.
Mostly I do (go along), but sometimes it might be wise to question.
Remember, it never hurts to ask.

My dentist does them once a year. He shows them to me after the cleaning/polishing.

My previous dentist paid child support to three women, two of them were ex- wives who also received alimony, he worked like a dog.
