Skybar in Auburn is quite popular. Pretty sure it’s by far the #1 customer for Alabama ABC.

Made a trip to see family near ASU's campus in Tempe last fall and can confirm, Mill Ave still gets packed with college kids later at night.

Great place. A lot of yuppies, too.
I love the chicks in Tempe.

21 to drink killed them
I'm in that window where I had to stop drinking for a few weeks when that went into effect. It was legal for me to to buy a beer for two years then it was illegal for a month then it was legal again.

Those were the days! And nothing like the days the upperclassmen talked about.

$2.50 pitchers on Monday night, go out with your buddies when MNF came on with less than $10 in your pocket and come home feeling good. Can’t do that today.

Campus Corner in Norman is rowdy on game days and otherwise pretty busy during school. They just economically survive the summers.

Every weekend! and $3 beer bust on sat night

The old Booth in Tuscaloosa would do penny 12oz draft beers until someone peed. They also did 24oz Long Island teas for $3 from 2pm-8pm

Kids today still go out but not like we did. And that’s probably a good thing.

I didn't have enough money to go out drinking every single night, which is a good thing or I never would have graduated.

In college, I went out every single night, which had a lot to do with it taking me 7 years to get my 4 year degree.

I’m curious how much more a beer or well drink is now compared to when I was there (not all that long ago)
at shanahans in 1985 a can of bud or Miller lite was $1.85, a well drink was $2.25, call was $2.75, premium $3.25. Shots were $1.75. Old Style on tap was $0.85 or $4.00 for a pitcher. Three for one was Wednesday night and ladies night was Thursday. Mondays were $1.00 pitchers

How I remember all that I’ve no idea

most zoomers simply cannot afford to go out as often as gen xers could back in the day.

$20 in your pocket, you could stay out all night, bounce from bar to bar, get a bite to eat at 2am, and wake up the next day with a couple bucks in your pocket!

same. I worked at shanahans and we went to quills, fat Harry’s, miss maes, F&M, rendon inn, Bruno’s, madigans, etc. no better time ever to be a college student than New Orleans in the mid 80s

Agree. Also AT2s, Sitting Duck, Boot, Metro; Phillips and Columns (when a bit older).

In my mind, I feel like I went out to bars 3 to 4 nights a week in the summer, though I know I did not. My kids mostly drank at house parties, though my youngest who is still in college does bar hop some in NOLA. At school they mostly party in off campus apartments and sometimes go to clubs. They spend more than I did bc they buy better alcohol and eat out much more.

No excuses. I was a poor college student once too. If we couldn't afford to go out we'd pool our money and have house parties. Keg of Busch Light for $50 gets it started, $3 bucks a cup, buy more kegs as needed.

if you remember the dude with the marine flat top who bartended at the duck, that was my roommate. We never went to the other places you listed, those were Tulane bars and we kept pretty segregated.

Went there a lot in the 80's
Great dance floor, sound system, specials, and of course hot Sun Devil babes!
I recall seeing The Jetson's there and Del Fuego

Another great hang out in Tempe then was Cowboys!

Yea I was more on the Tulane side. We didn't go to Shanahan's. That was for Metry guys looking for fights.

Nope. College bars are alive and well.

Go to the strip in Tuscaloosa or tiger land and see.

I’m still to this day amazed that Tigerland is the only real string of bars LSU has to offer. It’s severely lacking and it’s honestly awful from a location standpoint. The establishments themselves are the standard college bar. Just wish it was located somewhere like north gate or the other side of highland where fat cow used to be.
