Posted by REB BEER online on 12/14/15 at 9:10 pm to bradwieser I'm still holding onto my Kevin Maas 1990 Upper Deck rookie card hoping it's worth enough to put my kid through college.
If you find the right buyer, you just might be able to buy your kid a nice #2 Ticonderoga pencil for her/his first college class.

Majority of my baseball cards were braves because that's who I'm a fan of. I had a few obscure sports cards, like O'Neil and pippen, a few hockey ones I couldn't remember. But mainly I collected xmen and spiderman cards, damn I used to love that shite. I was really young though, I don't even know if my parents still have all my books and binders.

I had ~5000 cards from the mid 80's to early 90's with rookie and even some minor league cards of the biggest names at the time. I know that they wouldn't be worth much today but frick Katrina for taking them from me along with most of the important stuff from my childhood.

The Deion Sanders Beckett was the shite!

Stuff that's made to be collected is never valuable. I learned that from watching Pawn Stars.
Explains why the older cards that were thrown in with your cigarettes or gum hold value. But later cards didn't.

I've got several good ones ranging from Stan the man 1950's, Ozzie Smith rookie cards, Phil Sims rookie cards and several other cards ranging from Shaq Beam Teams to Kobe rookies.

The black and white Bo Jackson was where it's at! It's with about 50'cents now. :-(

I recall the guys who ran those card shops being very shady. In the early 90's I brought all my cards to a guy to see what they would be worth. I used my Beckett and went with the low price and tried to be very reasonable. I figured my cards had a worth of about 300 dollars. The dude looked at my cards wrote down numbers and took a while looking in the back and finally he made his offer. 15 dollars cash or 20 dollars worth of trade....

As a lifelong collector I have seen it all with the hobby. Most of you commenting are basing your comments on cards that are overproduced and/or caught up in the steroid scandal era. Cards for years now have gone over a vast overhaul. Many boxes and product these days are highly sought after. The quality is better, the production limited. You can walk into a store and buy a box of cards and walk out with a four digit card. I promise if you pull an Odell Beckham autographed patch card for example in football or a Kris Bryant/Carlos Correa autographed rookie card in baseball you are looking at serious money. If you get onto eBay for any appreciable amount of time and you will know exactly what I am referring to. So please keep in mind that when you're dealing with garbage cards you will get garbage value however there is a while new realm of worthwhile card collecting out there should you seek it...

Becketts started to become collectibles too. I remember a few months after an issue came out the shop would have a popular one, depending on the cover, under a case for like $30 or so.

Are you telling me the "Emotion" cards are worthless?
I have the full set of Cal Ripken Jr, Turn Back the Clock Series.
I should have sold them then

At a nickle each, that's $12,500. I'm guessing that's a pretty fair value, but finding a buyer would be tough.
State Farm bought a lot of my cards after Katrina, 75% of Beckett was still a good price.

I have a Walter Payton rookie card that I keep with an autographed glossy. I keep meaning to put them in a frame together or something.
I have tons of old football cards, good names like Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas, Gale Sayers, few old OJ Simpsons etc. I inherited a shoe box full of baseball cards from the 60s but they were cherry-picked so it's all common stuff.
Oddballs: I have Pete Maravich and Kareem Abdul Jabbar cards from the only pack of basketball cards I ever bought.

About a year or so ago my son (just turned 14 this month) and all his little buddies got into trading cards. They were mostly into football cards though instead of baseball cards. He's got a couple binders full of football cards. Like most things though with kids that fad seems to have passed. I've not known of him to buy football cards in a long time.

Was the gem of my collection. I traded a neighborhood kid for this. Forgot what I gave him, but I was sure proud of the transaction. I remember his mom being mad he traded it to me.
Those days were fun, opening packs and trading with other kids.
