Since this is an architecture thread, I'll post some of my favorite details (all FLW, was a man well ahead of his time):

It's tough to say Frank Lloyd Wright is underrated, since he is so popular, but for anyone that has actually remodeled/built homes, the amount of intricate, thought out detail is remarkable. He started a styling techniques that are popular to this day.

yeah i've been a FLW fan as long as i can remember and have tried to visit buildings he designed whenever i'm out of town.

tucson has quite a few homes he designed i understand from his 'talesin west' era.

falling water was amazing to visit in person. there will never ever EVER be another house built on top of a waterfall in our lifetime

Thank you for posting this. There's a floor plan here. because I couldn't figure out how the rooms were laid out, I went looking.

I mean a lot of the styling will be the same in the SW, utilizing local materials and positioning for maximum climate control efficiency. Minimal precipitation and high winds means pitched roofs are not only more expensive, but a liability.

Pretty sure FLW also used plenty of thermal masses in his desert designs.

Would you call this minimalism? It’s pretty relaxing. The simplicity and open space.

Good reference and not knocking you at all but that source sounds a hell of a lot like some "Ram Earth" contractor trying to explain why he charges more than an Adobe contractor. Besides the fact that adobe is left to dry outside the forms, they sound exactly alike. FWIW, I know a bit about Adobe construction as I lived out in AZ for several years and looked into building a house out of the stuff.

From reading up on it, it just sounds like "rammed Earth" is dropped into the form and compacted in place. If they are using less moisture, I would have concerns over how hard the walls become over time. I can tell you from living out there that they have some pretty awesome storms in the desert from time to time and the wind blown sand is no joke. I saw cars lose their paint jobs during some of the dust storms.

Perhaps you should learn how to read instead of getting defensive? They are clearly different processes, as the OT was nice enough to point out in his second post. Before you lecture me I should disclose I co-own a rammed earth vacatiopn house in Hurricane, UT between Red Cliffs and Zion NP.

I like the idea of it, but the execution looks about as comfortable as sleeping on a Coke machine.

Hey Mr. 39 posts, why don't you blow it out your arse?

This is the OT and my post was damn near the nicest thing ever said on this Board. We were having a conversation, me and CAD, until you came running to his defense. Read more and post less until you figure things out.

And take a spelling lesson then learn the difference between OP and OT. Moron.

Could just go live in a cave. People with money spend it on silly things. This is an example.

SLC too?

I'm currently looking into getting a vacation property down that way. Any chance to connect? Just want to ask some questions.

Exactly the response I expected. If you'll excuse me, I'll be down in the lab trying to "figure things out".
