Apparently, selling fireworks is pretty lucrative

Just went picked up some sparkles for my kid for tonight. Parking lot was 3/4 full. Some guy parked outside the tent to load up his truck. He bought a giant “Godfather” combo package among other things. Upon enter the tent it was full of customers of all groups. I was surprised his many women in there. Some carrying carts, some pulling wagons like at Costco.
I ran across the Godfather package and the price is $1145. Good lord.
Kind of weird to see American themed fireworks like Uncle Sam and American Eagle only to see the label “made in China”.
I grabbed a few other things and ended up spending $30. At the checkout, they have 4 registers and the table had piles of credit card receipts.
They might only sell around New Year and 4th of July but they probably make a killing.

The markup on fireworks is insane, problem is trying to get a permit to sell them is like trying to infiltrate the mafia

A family friend used to have a license to sell that shite until just recently. They made a massive profit from NYE and 4th of July every year, and I debate whether or not I should get a license to do the same thing every year.

It is wild. I have a customer that has 4 stores. He sells fireworks and has 3-4 rent houses. He told me that outside of the big stuff (150+) he has about a 450-500% markup.

My ole man lived to argue and bargain with the fireworks guy.
He would spend $300-$400 but made sure he got a deal, it was amazing what he would get.
I'm not sure why he got suck a kick out of it

Well he saved money on not needing to buy any punks since he had the torch as his son.

I'm this way when buying a car. I negotiate all fricking day long with the salesman until I get the deal I want, and I've been successful each time. Last time I bought a car was in 2021 and the poor girl at Ascension Honda was exhausted after. She was hot as frick though so I enjoyed talking to her the entire day. When the deal closed she told me she had never done business with anyone as anal and persistent as me

This can't be true. We're told we live in a free market. Anyone can do anything.

We're also told that what's reported in the media is true when in reality it's false, just like the quote that you're attributing to me

You know, I was with my wife so it seemed important at the time to not ask for a picture of her.

Today, bottle rockets are two for one
And salvation's free
Here at the......
He said, I ain't in it for the money
most cars pass on by,
but I pay the rent on New Year's and the Fourth of July
These thangs are made in china
so it's easy to see
how a man who worships Budda ain't got no guarantee

I think about this every time that I drive by the big arse fireworks warehouse that somebody built near my house. It’s operational two months out of the year and sits there empty for the other 10.

I have a good friend that has like 10 locations. All of the fireworks come from China and he usually orders enough to cover New Years and the 4th because it takes a pretty good lead time to get big fireworks orders in. His order comes in on a cargo ship so that’s why he orders in advance. Yes there is a gigantic markup on fireworks. Insanely marked up. He kills it when it is good weather but the tariffs did sting for him. He keeps any unused fireworks in a big arse storage place he owns along with all the stands.

I bet that guy that started a thread shitting on people that spend money on watches is the type of guy that buys the godfather fireworks package.

This was maybe 15-20 years ago, but I know a girl who dated a guy who owned several firework stands in Louisiana. In 3 weeks out of the year he was clearing around $800k. Now this is what she was saying so I don't know how accurate that is and the last I heard was that he was selling them. I know the insurance is expensive as shite. I am thinking he brought in around $800k before expenses, but the markups on that shite is insane.
I could be completely wrong and there is a chance this person mixed up the numbers, etc but those little tanks that you light and it rolls forward and shoots out fire.. They are bought for like $0.15. I don't know what they sell them for but I would imagine at least $1? I can't even begin to estimate how many of them are sold at a firework stand, on average, but I think I read that the 4th of July pays for all of your expenses and Christmas time is all profit..
