Leave a note on the door.

"I know who you are and have taken pictures of you casing my house. If you touch my property, I fill find you."

Something "Taken-ish" like that

FWIW both entrances to the house are secured by multiple locks

As someone that "breaks" into vacant houses often I will tell you this doesn't mean shite. Most locks people buy at big box stores are crap and can be twisted with a pipe wrench or it takes about 10 seconds for someone with a rake pick or bump keys if they know how to use them.

I figured that was the case, but just wanted all of the information out there.

I doubt any standard locks would keep anyone out. I just need it to be difficult enough to force someone to cause a big enough disturbance in broad daylight.

Again, I have broken into 100s of houses as have my workers and sub-contractors and very rarely does someone actually call the cops. You better hope that you have a nosey neighbor that is home when the people come back.

Seriously, make it look like a murder scene.

Go home alone on their arse and put nails and tacks right by the entrance of the door, set up a blow torch once the door opens, etc.

Get yourself a murderface costume and have some fun.

Take a weeks vacation, leave one morning and go to a McDonald's, walk straight through the McDonald's and hop into a buddy's car, have him drop you off a bloxk away, and enter your house from the back.

The adventure, begins.

You actually aren't the first one to suggest this

Set up a satanic worship shrine (complete with gory murder pictures) immediately behind your front door so if they do get in, they'll think you're the kind of psycho that will track them down and ritualisticly murder them in a slow, methodical fashion.

If one of those chicks were my sister, I'd go full on Alabama on her.

My neighbor (no pics) calls me over to tell me that someone had pulled up to the front door of our townhouse and was fidgeting with the lock on the door for about 20 minutes

20 minutes seems like a really long time for a burglar to be fiddling with your front door

My landlord left one of those lock box door handle things with a spare key in it (opened via a code), when she was debating selling it. I assume for the realtor.

I left it on there as a spare in case someone locked themselves out.

The individual was fiddling with that according to my neighbor.

Maybe testing for an alarm system? Trying to get the key? I have no clue. I'm going to swing by my place right after my sister leaves for school to see if anyone approaches.

Whatever he was doing, it's the fact he hung out on your front porch for 20 minutes that's weird. 20 minutes is a long time for such a thing.

People are retarded. I think breaking into someone's house is weird. But I'm not entirely sure what other reason he could have possibly had for being there doing that other than trying to get in.

Type up a note and tape it on your door...

Yeah I'm not arguing, he was up to no good and I hope you get to justifiably homicide him. I hate thieves. But even worthless burglars don't want to get caught. That's brazen to hang there for 20 minutes. I don't know why but he's pretty confident about not getting in trouble by your house.

Take off a few days of work. Go park your car some where around the corner and patiently wait for the intruder. Hell make it easy for him and not even lock the door. Shoot him when he gets in. Go back to work after you kill him. Call the cops to let them know you killed someone on your way to work.
