How is it out there? 8505 is one of the last Ensco rigs working in the GOM.

When we rebuilt the side that McDermott dropped we did it in 8 months. The original module that took a swim took close to two years.

The rebuild still had revisions on it, you would think after building one that you would know what you want? Nope, still had revisions.


Right after they dropped it we had to fit and weld some huge padeyes on a barge. They lifted the barge in place where the module should be and filled it with water to balance the load on the jacket.

They sent an ROV to look at it when it first fell, all of the tanks and deck legs were imploded. It would have been a total scrap job if they could have got it off the sea floor.


ETA; It was definitely a Texaco project, still have some safety awards with the Texaco Logo on them.

ETA 2: I think the jacket is the tallest in the GOM too.

I think the 8503 is working too at GB-409.
