I'm okay with one day, but I wouldn't be opposed to Memorial Day celebrated through a weekend.

Did they not get paid? Do they not get lifetime benefits? Former military get more recognition than any other group in existence.

I would rather celebrate veterans than pride month but since veterans only get one day, I try to do as much as I can. I bake pies for the veterans in my community. One, an elderly Vietnam veteran, had never been thanked for his service. When I brought him a pie and thanked him for his service, he wept and could not stop shaking my hand. Since he had no family, I started inviting him to celebrate holidays with my family. We kept that up until he died last year.

How about Welder Day for the fifty year olds I've seen who can't work because their eyes are shot. Soldiers are just doing a job, just like anyone else.

Yeah that dangerous arc from your TIG/MIG gun is exactly the same as the grunt in Nam getting mortared while sleeping at 0300 in the morning on some godforsaken FOB.

It’s also the same job as the guys heading down an Afghan road in a Humvee on patrol getting obliterated by a 155mm howitzer shell buried in a dead dog they happened to pass by.

Probably just as dangerous work as a SEAL team taking a joyride on a Chinook right up to the point where they get blown apart by a couple of RPG’s some hadji’s launched into it.

Please continue in telling us that it’s the same job as theirs fkn Einstein….

Presidents, Veterans, Mothers, Fathers, Jesus and those that gave the last full measure are the only ones that should get days.

I'm about to go have cocktails with two friends(retired O-6s,) who were involuntary guests at the Hanoi Hilton for a few years in the late 60s, early 70s, pretty humble guys, at least for fighter pilots, they, and their families, made quite a sacrifice for our country

Of course you are!

Don't forget to mention that you're gonna have dinner later with a good buddy that received the Medal of Honor!

I’m a veteran and I say, no. I appreciate your appreciation but once a year is plenty.

As a vet myself, no. We get plenty of benefits already, much undeserved. It's a job that was voluntarily signed up for.

Exactly. Although I believe that those who suffered life altering injuries should get better care for themselves and their families.

May be true for your era of service, but it is important to note a lot of Veterans, pre 1973 were “volunteered” by mail from Uncle Sam.

Happy VA Disability Check?

Eta: that's the daily recognition Vets deserved. Get paid for the damage done for answering your Nation's calling.
