The only Marine I.D. I publicly always have is the emblem on my truck, and the generic “veteran” on my drivers license.
there's some dude a couple of neighborhoods away that I drive by pretty often that owns a landscape business, he's got a couple of trucks that I guess are like his version of high school letter jackets, "COMBAT VETERAN" emblazoned on both trucks, front and rear windows, CIB, and other medals as decals, okay buddy, that's enough

They get priority boarding on southwest 365 days a year

We’re good with one day a year and our ten percent discounts.

There's a big difference between a recognition month where companies just change their Twitter picture and a national holiday.

And only a small portion of that small portion made it passed AIT.

If you want to do something for military and veterans, scream at your congressional representatives for reform at the VA and the military justice system.

Cry more bitch. Federal fricking holiday is a bit different than an arbitrary month.

Veterans certainly deserve recognition. But the virtue signaling has gotten beyond absurd. No one has been drafted in over 50 years and fought a war even though they didn't choose to. Everyone who is in the military now voluntarily signed up to do that job. It's a great service for the public good, but stuff like letting the board a plane first, discounts at restaurants, etc are just vapid virtue signaling not meant to actually thank the vet, but to make the virtue signaler feel morally superior. I know many vets that don't accept the virtue signaling because they feel, like you, they are/were just doing their job and don't need special attention for doing it.
I'm glad there's some people recognizing that it's over the top. And worship of the military always rubs me the wrong way...like the first toe on a slippery slope to military facism.
And you can't sling a stick around Alabama without hitting a "disabled veterans" tag...I know one who was in the reserves and does pretty much the exact same job as me...but he's getting significant "disability" for some condition that doesn't appear to affect him in any way.

Heck, even sharks get a full week of attention.
Shameful.
There should be a separate day called Heros Day.
Only those with medals from actual deployments to enemy lands.

As a vet myself, I’m fine with one day. But I do think that it should be mandatory that all Vets are actually off work on Veterans Day. This past Monday my daughter was out of school and my wife was off work for Veterans Day. Meanwhile, I actually had to work Monday.

NO. I m fine with the knowledge that most people appreciate my service. I don't like the spot light and neither do most . I volunteered for it. Spent 25 years doing it and thankful for the opportunity to serve.

Well, don’t be a pussy, and you could’ve been paid too.

I've got a relative that really milks the vet thing undeservedly.
He was only in for a couple years and I believe got an honorable discharge as a favor when he should have been dishonorably discharged for bad conduct. All he really did is go to Europe and do a bunch of coke for a few years....sorry bud I don't think I would be standing up during the church service when they recognize vets if that's all I did

You are more than welcome to demonstrate your appreciation for whatever the hell you want for however many days you want.
In fact, your ability to do that is likely the only recognition that vets are looking for - that they did their jobs well enough that you can do whatever you want with your days.

No. Not really.
I honestly don’t even want the recognition. Not like in a rude way but i get my benefits pay, free medical, kids can do school for free, and there are also all sorts of free things i get off my VA app.
I’m good with that

No, but stopping this nation-building world-police bullshite would go a long way towards honoring future vets.
IMO EVERYONE 18+ should be eligible for compulsory military service so every American family has skin in the game - that would put a stop to these forever wars garbage, too, as there would be a far higher political price to pay for starting these garbage wars.
