Center for Holocaust Education is putting it on today. I signed up for it and just wondered if anyone else had taken it.

The members of Monty Python were shooting a TV special in Germany, and one day after filming they were taken to tour the Dachau concentration camp.

When they arrived, however, they were told that the camp was closed for the evening, so they wouldn't be allowed in.

Graham Chapman yelled out, "Tell them we're Jews!"

Was there in December, 2021. Surreal experience that such hatred and inhumanity could exist. Some of the exhibits where there were thousands of shoes, or eyeglasses or suitcase were indescribable. Lot of pictures in the barracks you wouldn't want to share.

The fact that it was in the low 20s and snowing some made it even more sobering.

Everyone should go there at least once if they have the chance.

Shared some of these pictures on the Travel board a while back.

Do you really think that very thing does not exist in America today?

It exists everywhere there are millions of people. But it’s hard to imagine that sort of industrialized murder, which has only happened once in human history.

In all seriousness I proudly rocked my Jesse Owens tshirt whilst touring Sachenhausen camp outside Berlin in 2017 or so.

Craziest thing about that camp was it was in the middle of this very old neighbourhood and obviously the nearby residents knew what was going on there (was not a "death camp" but they did have crematorium)

"That very thing" : to the extent there are no medical doctors pulling out the eyeballs of twin children & pinning them on a mat on the wall. no. To the extent there are no medical doctors stomping on the bellies of pregnant women to force out the unborn baby, no. To the extent children were thrown out the windows of multi floor apartments when ghettos were being emptied, no. To the extent an entire small village was locked in a wooden church, barricaded in, and burned alive, no. etc etc etc

Absolutely...I toured Mathsusen in Linz, Austria & it was a life changing & sobering experience.

It should be required that every student (& citizen) should at least do the virtual tour if they can't see it in person.

A lot of today's problems in this country would go away fast if people really learned the true depths of evil that man through a totalitarian government can sink to if left unchecked.

I used to wonder how the citizens could ever let that happen, but after the last 10 years- it's clear as day.
We better wake up fast!

John Cleese is on record as saying that was (in his opinion) the single most funny thing ever done by a Python.

Yes. Not sure how to describe how it felt to be where such human suffering had taken place. Not sure I would do it again.
