Get tested for sleep apnea. You don't have to be obese to have it.

Cut out ALL caffeine.

It is almost always stress or anxiety related. Figure that out and you’ve probably got it licked.

Get checked for high blood pressure, and get a sleep study (for sleep apnea).

Struggled with sleep for years. Did four combat deployments that didn't help either.

I quit drinking two years ago and literally within a month all my sleep problems were gone. I hadn't even planned on quitting drinking but being able to just lay down at 930 and go to sleep was worth it.

I only have trouble if I don’t get enough exercise during the day.

This is me. I can fall asleep quickly but I’ll wake up hours before I need to. I set my alarm for 5am and rarely make it to my alarm

I do at times. Reading a boring book or rereading not really good books usually clears my head and puts me out pretty quick.

Both are antipsychotic meds used to treat Schizophrenia.

Are there not concerns as to how it may affect brain chemistry?

Usually lunchtime. Occasionally like 2-3pm but never later than that.

This is me. I fall asleep in 5 minutes. My wife says it's unbelievable, but I start waking up way before I need to. I usually get up to take a leak around 3 and I either don't go back to sleep or toss and turn afterwards.

I take the highest dose of Trazadone for sleep problems. I was prescribed this maybe five or six years ago. When I first looked up the medication it is a SARI or serotonin antagonist reuptake inhibitor. I said damn, mental medication. But I have had no appreciable side effects from it. I am alert when I awake and I go to sleep easily 95% of the time. It is not habit forming as I recall, one does not build up a resistance to it. I take it every night as I guess a depressed or anxious person may take the equivalent of Zoloft. When I conveyed to my cardiologist later that the drug was an antidepressant, he said it is the first go to sleep medication because it is not habit forming. I can't overstate IMHO how harmful it is to get into a situation where a person fights going to sleep every night. The mere fact it is difficult can wear on a persons mind in anticipation of not going to sleep. And from my experiences chronic insomnia can make a person useless in the job. I recall trying to get to sleep at night and I'd close my eyes and see bursts of colors. And I would think in fragments as I was exhausted. I got help quickly when this happened and they pulled me out of it. And I was aware when I started to plunge into the depths of insomnia again. I had a 30 plus year career that was stressful at times (it shouldn't have been). I mostly handled it well but I had occasional downturns. So again OP, get help. You may come out of it without medication, but you may not.

I am retied now, am financially secure (no worry) and have no reason to slip into a sleep funk. I sure am glad. I do agree the more physical exercise a person gets makes getting to sleep much easier. Good luck all!

Even without sleep meds I would easily fall asleep but would wake at about 2:30am and roll around for a couple of hours. Sleep meds took care of the 2:30am wide awake feeling.

Try reading. Specifically self help books or even the Bible. They always put me right to sleep. Worst case scenario I'll stay awake reading for an hour. But usually I'm yawning within 10 minutes.

Here’s what you need:

Liposomal Magnesium 210g
B12 50mg
B6 50mg
Melatonin 5mg

Works great for me. When you start feeling sleepy about 20-30 minutes after taking it, that’s when you need to hit the sack. I take it when I’m getting into bed.

3 grams of L tryptophan from amazon is the only supplement that has helped me out with sleep.. that and exercise.. if i exhaust myself at the gym and get up early that usually works… i try to keep a strict wind down routine.. and in bed every night by 9. I take trazodone for nights that are especially bad

Usually if I’m having trouble falling asleep I lay there doing the 4-4-4-4 breathing and it puts me to sleep in minutes. 4 seconds inhale, 4 seconds hold, 4 seconds exhale, 4 seconds hold….etc

That seems excessive. Are you seriously advising someone to take almost half a pound of magnesium?
