you were familiar in general or knew any of the family.
I was a student at LSU at the time and remember it well. My recollection was that most people thought that the outcome for both Doucet and Gary Plauche was appropriate given the circumstances.

I remember that happening. It was my freshman year at LSU. He made a great shot and that a-hole deserved it.

I was 13 at the time , they played the video on the local news here in Nola , and even though I've seen it a few times since then that's one thing I can remember like yesterday , no doubt in my mind Gary is a hero .....

They said Gary was tipped off by a reporter from WBRZ.
Well, supposedly WBRZ staff used to hang out at the Cotton Club after work (since it was nearby), and so did Plauche. It was said that Plauche just overheard some WBRZ staffer mentioning that their camera crew was heading over to the airport to film Doucet's arrival, so Plauche jumped in his vehicle and headed right on over. Don't know if that's true or not.

Nothing wrong with being gay but I'm genuinely curious about this. Does being abused affect orientation, was it a coincidence, or did it play a factor in it happening and Doucet just took advantage?

Probably--but, then again, this isn't the Old West. You need to let the justice system do it's job. Plauche's own son has said that he doesn't agree with what his father did.

Actually the community was divided and a lot of people were not happy with his sentence (300 hours of community service and probation iirc) the trial was also right in the middle of a DA's election and was a pivotal point and the trial was "delayed " until after the election

My old college roommate was at the airport when it went down. Scary stuff.

He had grown a beard. It was unusual for him to have one. I could be wrong but I don't recall him having one any other time.

I agree with you, nothing wrong with being gay, but I am not gay.
And no, being abused does not affect your sexual orientation in most cases.

He had a beard on and off. He did not grow the beard as a disguise because he had it 2 weeks earlier when I was returned from California.
But most of the time he was without a beard. I don't think he ever grew another one...a goatee, but not a full beard.

My dad worked at Channel 2 at one point. He was on their bowling team. He knew almost everyone at Channel 2. He heard the information from the Program Director at the time, Bob Shadell or Chadell. It was at lunch so he didn't go strait to the airport.
He made it to Jerry's Quick Stop out at False River before heading to the airport. And, he was actually talking to his best friend on the phone when he pulled the trigger. He told him, "you are going to hear the shot."
If he "truly" overheard...he was meant to overhear. It was no accident he found out.

Yes. I was at our camp helping my Dad fix the A/C when I saw on the TV Gary Plauche pop Jeff Doucet. Ed Buggs turned white, but maybe that was from the coke.

I was in high school at the time and was watching the broadcast. Every now and then when I fly into BR I walk pas that wall that used to have phones and remember.
Thank goodness he didn't miss and hurt an innocent bystander, but I'm glad he got it done.

The rumor at the time was that a police officer friend tipped him off.
I'll see if I can find the article.
Gary Plauche
quote:
Plauche was friends with several high-ranking police officers in the Baton Rouge Police Department; while many people believed that these contacts told Plauche where and when Doucet would be arriving, it was actually an employee of the TV news station WBRZ who gave Plauche the information.
