Dairy products did that to me and didn't start until my early 60s.

A Starbucks latte would send me to the restroom in less than 10 minutes.

You might be describing more of a heartburn, and if you've never had a workup for it, there's other causes such as hiatal hernia, etc. If this has been a persistent problem untreated (like no PPIs, etc)) you may benefit from an upper endoscopy to make sure everything looks normal there. Esophageal cancer may be a concern if you've had issues swallowing foods you didn't before and if this has been ongoing. It's good to get this checked out if this hasn't improved. My friend lost his father d/t esophageal cancer because he didn't see a doctor earlier for these alarming features.

None of this is said to be scary or sound extreme, but I would perhaps go in to maybe discuss w/ doc if this is more heartburn vs. abdominal pain.

Had 4 EGDs done with biopsies. All negative for every GI disorder you can think of. I was flabbergasted. The only real finding was an irregular Z line of the esophagus but it came negative for dysplasia

I was having debilitating left side flank/back pain for 3+ years. Couldn't even sleep on my left side. Tried everything, scans showed nothing. Finally a new OBGYN offered exploratory surgery )laparoscopic) and would run camera up my back. Turns out my spleen was so enlarged she thought it was a tumor. My liver was enlarged as well and all the veins between the organs were varicosed. Major surgery followed a few weeks later to remove my spleen. So while it wasn't fun, I'm very thankful she was willing to do it to finally find the source of my pain.

Sort of for a sinus issue. They couldn’t figure out why I had zero taste and smell for six months. They tried to say it was covid, but my taste and smell would come back for ten minutes if I worked out hard enough. No signs of nasal polyps with in-office scopes.

So they put me under for a FESS to see what was going on. Doc said I had a ton of diseased tissue and put me on Dupixent.

Have one scheduled soon for unexplained abdominal pain that’s been persisting for the past 2 years. Had a million different kinds of tests and imaging that showed nothing. Nervous as hell because it’s pretty invasive but worth it since my QOL has been absolute dogshit. Luckily insurance is willing to cover it

Yes I had the exact same thing for the same amount of time with all test showing nothing. It was appendicitis so they took them out and I never had another issue. I was like 28yo...almost 25 years ago.

Had the exact same as well. I took some antibiotics they gave me in the beginning and it went away for some time but then come back so they said time to go exploring.

It’s more epigastric than abdominal

Mine was lower in the belly area. They did a lap on me too. Be warned I was kinda miserable after with the excess air in me. There was times a air bubble would get lodged in a spot that would cause a lot of pain. Took a cpl days for it to all go away. Change your position to get it to move, I found laying flat on my back was best. Don't sit still too long tho or you may catch a blood clot. I had a bilateral PE from a unrelated surgery some years later, lucky to be alive.

No, but I deepthroated a camera the day Sonny skied into a tree. Kinda cool seeing down my esophagus on the monitor until the anesthesia turned out the lights.

How did a CT scan not indicate an enlarged spleen or liver?!

I know someone who went through exploratory surgery for ongoing abdominal and intestinal issues bc nothing on tests could be found. I was fully expecting them to find a hidden malignancy but it was scar tissue from a prior surgery and some crohns and some lower intestine removed. Still has some issues and tests still come back clean. Good luck.

I would not get an exploratory laparotomy for your symptoms. There is a lot less invasive steps beforehand. Not to mention an exploratory laparoscopy which is way less invasive with minimal incisions. I would get a second opinion.

I hope you find answers but if you don’t hopefully you can find some peace because unfortunately doctors don’t always have an answer for everything that ails us.

IF you are in relatively poor physical condition for your age then I would highly recommend not doing it. Anytime you cut through your abdominal wall, your chances of rupture and or additional surgeries in the future increase exponentially even with surgical mesh. IF life is difficult then do it if there is a good chance of success but if it is purely exploratory then I am very surprised your insurance is covering it and the surgeon is performing it. Insurance companies are getting very difficult when it comes to covering costly, “unnecessary” procedures

What are they gonna find that an MRI and CAT Scan can't?
