I've noticed at least 2-3 times a day with at least two in the sky, sometimes two groups of two just circling over the city. I've lived here for 20+ years and haven't seen them this active before. Anyone know if something is up?

I haven’t noticed a discernible increase.

They seem to have slightly elevated activity, but nothing unusual

Been in a coma the last 20 years? They fly most days.

It’s been fairly normal.

I notice their activity ramps up a decent amount after a period of crappy weather/low visibility.

Aerosol vaccination of the area to ensure Mardi Gras isn’t canceled, it’s all good.

Off topic related to flight path of commercial airlines.. I live right at the border of Kenner/Metairie by the lake. Been in this area for about 10 years now. Obviously I’m in the area of the airport and will have planes fly near me. But since the new terminal opened it seems like every plane coming in or leaving flies directly over my neighborhood. This wasn’t the case at all prior to the new airport opening.

Does anyone know if the flight paths permanently changed with the new airport? I don’t really understand why that would happen.

One of the runways has been limited for the last few months. Maybe you have noticed that change.

Seems like landings from over the spillway have been scaled way back or not being used. The N/S runway looks to be in use a lot more.

haven't they been working on the east/west runway recently? maybe temporary closures and the ILS down on that runway too I've heard?

I've noticed some takeoffs on the E/W heading west. Nothing really landing either direction though.

Thanks for the info. Runway work is probably what’s going on.
Basically from 5:30 am to 6:30 am every morning it is non stop plane traffic directly above the neighborhood that easily wakes up my kids. Definitely a recent development.

it's a daily occurrence that you apparently have just been oblivious to

I almost bought a house on Erlanger until I noticed about 20 planes flying over in the 30 minutes I was there

Can confirm they’re using N/S a lot more

In relation to OP, 159th has been really active in the area. We also have a bunch of USAF T-6s constantly flying over the area.

ETA: Not sure where VFA-204 is right now.

159th Fighter Wing out of Belle Chasse practices pretty regularly in the area.
I believe there is also a Navy Aviation unit down there, but not sure. Used to be one.
If so, plenty of USAF and USN planes doing their normal practice/training shite. Required fly-time.
