I lived in Palm Beach County and worked in Broward, just outside of Ft. Lauderdale. My recommendation would be to live as far North and as far West as possible.

In Palm Beach County, I would check out the cities of Wellington, Royal Palm Beach and Jupiter (this may be a little too far North).

If you are set on Broward County, check out Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, Parkland and Weston.

I would stay out of Miami Dade County.

It’s where people who work in Miami who want to be normal live.

Look into Sunrise.

My office was in Sunrise. Be careful with that area, it can get sketchy quick.

It's been about 15 years since I lived in Ft. Lauderdale. I would love to live on the Intercoastal, but it's $$$$.

West of the Interstate is your best bet.

I live in PB County. My recommendation is like WPB's. Wouldn't live in Broward or Dade.

Bring an umbrella and prepare thy anus for traffic. It literally rains every afternoon and Miami drivers are worse than BR drivers in the rain.

What is your definition of affordable?

Also what is your definition of safe? I live next to Little Haiti and everyone is real friendly. Of course I open carry every where I go and the cops do not mess with white people in little haiti.

Depends on where you have to work. If you work in Miami, I would not live in FLL because the traffic on I-95 is turrible. Try Aventura or north Miami beach. Just avoid Miami Gardens and North Miami and Little Haiti.

I kind a live there. I can’t say enough how much I dislike people from that part of the world and I have lived in over 10 states on both coasts and on both sides of the Mason Dixie. I can spot them so far away. I’m referring mostly to the Miami crowd.
That being said, not many places described above are places I really like. I have a lot of friends in Delray. Our HS sports teams play at American Heritage Delray often and it’s a nice school for the $25k for kindergarten.
I read last week real estate prices in Boca was up 20% on the year for 2018.

Do you mind using public transportation? The new high speed rail line from WPB to Central Miami is open and the Miami station connects to the metrorail which goes to the Miami airport. The high speed rail line is operated by Virgin trains and it is awesome and the metrorail is not terrible for the short distance from Miami Central to the airport. If you do not mind using public transportation then that is a great option if you live in FLL. The traffic on I-95 and the turnpike going south in the mornings and north in the afternoon is some of the worst in the country.

If you do not want to deal then I would suggest maybe Doral so it would be close to your work and your wife would be going against traffic so it would not be that bad.

Man traffic around that place is congested all the time, not just a rush hour. You may want to look into that public transportation suggestion.
