I didn't know that was a stereotype. Most kids with ASD are generally super sweet, just get triggered easily.

Lots of people alleging foul play there.

Ugh. Gross.

I would venture we find out more to the story sometime soon but to go in the comments of the kids big sister who is asking for help and to light her up with allegations against her mother is a special kind of ridiculous behavior.

I doubt it’s foul play, but probably more negligence on the mother’s part than anything.

Yea but to use the big sisters post detailing how to help as the place to debate and make assertions? Folks on there need to chill with the idea of being right and start doing right.

may be a typo that they didn't bother fixing, like when you were trying to "decided" if it was a joke or not

I teach autistic children and some do have an extreme attraction to water.

I have a 3.5 year old autistic daughter and can confirm this also. We had a few episodes at the zoo and other places where she through a fit because we didn’t let her go in the water. Water is a big fear of my wife and I when it comes to the daughter.

This is a terribly sad story no matter what happened. The point is a child is still missing and I hope they find him.

Kids can be really fast. The first thing I do at my Mom's when her grandchildren arrive is make sure the top lock (way up high on the door) is locked to the door that goes out to the pool.

I’ve been told from my daughter’s therapy that the water thing is usually sensory. The stimulation helps regulate their senses that are in overdrive.

My daughters has no fear of water and will run toward it. She doesn’t know how to swim yet but we have been trying to teach her when we can. She took swimming lessons but didn’t do so well with the training/communication part.

JPSO is damming off a section of the canal this morning and pumping it down, in an attempt to locate the boy

In the sandbag capital of the world, I don't know how we can manage to fail at damming this water. Admittedly I don't know the area at all, but it seems to me we'd be able to hold this water back for a few hours.

The field imperative dam broke. Not sure what the water level differential was, but at around 6PM they were pumping out ~12" per hour and the water level was down ~4'. Parts of the canal were estimated to be 25' deep.
I dont know how substantial the dam was or wasnt.

Seems to me those giant sandbags we saw them dropping during Katrina might have been a better option?

I didn't realize that canals got that deep.

I assume it was an oilfield canal back in the day, before that area was designated as a Natl Park. I was also surprised to hear the sheriff say it was that deep.

For those saying there’s no place to fly a kite, does it surprise you that someone may be stupid enough to not know that?
