Anyone here take the FAA Part 107?

There’s so much online that it’s difficult to weed through all of the bs, so I come to the OT-
Does anyone have any experience with the Part 107 exam? Difficulty? Pointers? Etc.?

Really? Because the official study guide is bigger than some of my undergraduate courses.

that's the practical portion of the exam, have to pass it to get the license

You can pick this up for under 20 bucks online. I just started so no advice on the test itself, but it appears this is the go-to study guide.

It's a knowledge test only, there is no practical exam. It makes sure you know the rules before flying a UAS. The BEST thing is to take an online course. I used remotepilot101. It was $150 when I took it, and is constantly updated. The the $150 fee is for life. Comes in handy as you have to re-test every two years. Interestingly, you can get a UAS license without ever having to fly a UAS.

To your other point, you will not just walk in and pass it on common sense and guessing. Specialized questions regard airspace, reading aero charts, weather, and how to handle different situations within FAA regs. It is pretty involved, but manageable. Highly recommend the online course above. They even do sample tests towards the end with questions drawn from real tests.

I have to think that if your engines are tested to survive a frozen goose fired out of a cannon, then a plastic drone shouldn’t do much.

It means that between Aug 29, 2016 and Oct 14, 2016, 87,887 people applied to take the exam but only 28,989 people actually took it. Not too difficult to figure that out.

I had zero experience with aviation terminology and such. I studied for about 6 hours over 3 days and made a 90 on it. It's pretty damned easy. Learn how to read the charts, learn your terms, then profit.
