I do from from time to time. I have a buddy who has built an incredible collection of pipes and pipe Tobacco. It is truly an impressive collection and he has made a lot of money off of the hobby.

I smoke both cigars and a pipe occasionally. The single biggest difference for me is the fact that cigar smoke almost never smells good to anyone except the smoker, while very often people seem drawn to the aroma of pipe smoke.
The other thing I like about smoking a pipe, is that a bowl only lasts 20-30 minutes, while some of the cigars I smoke are a 45 minute plus affair. Which is not a big deal, but if you don't really have an hour to sit back and relax, you can always load a pipe and cut that time in half.

I enjoy smoking cigars occasionally to relax. My experience with pipe tobacco was the opposite of relaxing (always a fight and cadence to keep it lit). Could have been bad blends of tobacco, but I abandoned that early on.

I enjoy cigars and smoking a pipe while I'm doing it, but they leave such a long, undesirable aftertaste that I rarely take part.

Dry time my dude. All good pipe tobacco needs to be prepared (cut up if it's a plug like Plum Pudding one of my favorites) and then spread out on a paper plate or something for a bit before smoking.
It will help with staying lit and a cooler smoke and no tongue bite.

I'd be all about that. I know I haven't spent enough to have ever smoked any high end tobacco.

I'm going to be out of pocket for 2 1/2 weeks or so. When I get back, if someone wants a wide array of samples, I will send them out.
It will help with keeping my wife off my arse about one whole closet being taken up with pipe tobacco .
I'd be glad to throw you some money, to at least cover the freight charges.

I leave for Europe this afternoon and when I get back, I'll bump this thread.

You da man!
This has been a great thread, lots of good information. I have a few pipes and more than a little bit pipe tobacco I had forgotten about. I, too, have had trouble keeping a pipe lit and/or smoking small pipes that finished way too quickly, that I have kept to cigars.
It's certainly a rabbit hole for those who collect. Wait until you get hit with the want to create your own blends!!
I have two cool pipes. My buddy gave me his uncle's little Kaywoodie that he went through WW II with. Officers mostly smoked pipes while the grunts smoked Luckies. I love that little pipe.
I also have a completely unfinished Nording that I bought directly from Erik Nording at the retail tobacco dealers' show about 15 years ago. The idea is that the oils from your hands holding the pipe slowly finish the wood of the pipe over the years as you smoke it. I need to get back to it.

Recs on tobacco (widely available)? I'd try it out again. I just bought blends from local cigar shops. Just struggled keeping it lit even though I feel as though I packed it correctly most of the time.
