When smoking a pipe Do you inhale the smoke into your lungs or only into your mouth like a cigar? I’ve found that I enjoy someone else smoking a cigar near me about 10x more than smoking one myself. I think I’d be the same way with pipes.

if you're not inhaling tobacco, what is the use? is it just to burn the shite out of your taste buds?

I don’t, at least not on purpose, and when I accidentally do it’s really harsh. I just slowly sip on it, and “retrohale” through the nose.

If you or anyone else really want to get in to tobacco pipe smoking, I have thousands of dollars of good, high end pipe tobacco I will mail to anyone that wants it.
A few years ago I bought a shite ton of nice English, Balkan, Virginia/Perique blends. Some high end like Esoterica Penzance and some harder to find stuff like Samuel Gawith blends. We moved everything out of the house for a full remodel a few months ago and I was shocked about how much pipe tobacco I had squirreled away. My wife still threatens to throw it all away.
Boxes of unopened tins and maybe 100 Mason jars of jarred tobacco aging.
But anyway, don't smoke that cheap aromatic stuff. All it is is Cavendish tobacco soaked with food grade surfectant to add the stupid arse "flavors". There are so many different blends that are so much better and won't give you tongue bite like those hot burning Cavendishes.

You pick up on all sorts of different flavors through the different leafs used in blends. I’m not nearly as good at that as a lot of people seem to be, but it’s still noticeable. For example, some Virginia forward blends can have a citrusy tangy type of flavor. Also, you’re still getting nicotine in your system, though that’s not why most pipe smokers seem to smoke, it’s just absorbed more slowly through the lining in your mouth than if you were to inhale it directly into your lungs. There are certain blends that can knock you in your arse if you don’t already have a nicotine tolerance.

Bookmarked.
Did you ever get into McClelland blends? Did the live up to the current hype?

My dorm roommate freshman year of college would always smoke a pipe. I wasn’t ever into it, but it always smelled really good, and was a much better smell than the smell of weed that usually floated around the entire dorm complex.

The biggest douche in our law school class smoked a pipe (and wore a suit to class every day).
ETA: I feel kind of bad for the guy - turns out he died in the early 2000's.

When I was a wee lad in the 70s my Dad always smoked a pipe. He made it look cool AF .

I never got any tins. I had a guy send me a good sized sample a few years ago and it was quite good.
Man, I have 3 bags at least of Margate (Esoterica) and all kinds of shite. I also have so many Mason jars of Luxury Bullseye Flake that have been aging in jars for over 5 years. That stuff is awesome with a little age on it.
I have so much shite that I am more than willing to give a few tins or jars to someone who will enjoy them. I had no idea I had acquired so much over the years.
I also found at least a half dozen unopened Savinelli pipes and a Morta pipe (Rattray's).

At one time I was smoking over a pack of cigarettes a day and switched over to a pipe.
I was lucky enough to have a few old bowls that other family members had smoked but no longer fooled with then. I bought a few new stems that fit them and gave them a good cleaning to put them to use.
There once was a tobacco shop in Lakeside Mall called TheTinder Box and they sold all sorts of loose pipe tobacco, lighters, pipes, cigars, cigarettes and all kinds of accessories to go with them.
I picked out a few small packs of tobacco to try and found one I really liked. It was sweet, mild and after it burned left a very pleasant smell.
When I finally hit 50 I made the decision to give up all forms of smoking and went cold turkey. I gave away my small pipe collection, my good lighters and a few packs of cigarettes I also had lying around to get all of it out my sight.
That was damn near 22 years ago now and I've not even entertained smoking anything in all that time.

My dad and my grandpa both smoked a pipe. Both smoked Sir Walter Raleigh, which is a pretty crappy burley.

Oh nice. Yeah the PS luxury navy flake was the first “real” tobacco I had after Captain black, and I loved it. In my last order I purchased the bullseye flake & twisted flake, and love those both as well. I’m still in the sampling phase of my journey
, but I imagine I’ll stock up on all three at some point. The value to quality proposition on those Stokkebye bulk blends is fantastic.

Yes it is. Jar those suckers and let the Virginias mellow out for a few years and they will be fantastic. Stokkebye makes a good one called Oriental Supreme or something like that. An excellent Balkan/Oriental you can buy in bulk and throw in jars for storage. My favorites are generally Englishes and Balkans. Then probably VaPers and then good burley blends like Haunted Bookshop or Old Dark Fired.

I have smoked pipes since the late 70's. However, I do not smoke them every day. In fact maybe 2 or 3 times a month is the frequency generally..
As someone has already mentioned, the "flavored" tobacco's contain additives that give it that flavor. The analogy I use differentiating between flavored tobacco and the more pure tobacco leaf is its kinda like the difference between the flavored coffee you might get at starbucks vs a good cup of coffee from a quality been roast. You can certainly research various tobacco blends of quality leafs to determine which you may prefer.

I liken it to drinking a high quality glass of wine. It’s really not about the buzz (although you’ll often get one without inhaling), it’s about the flavor profiles & relaxing experience.
If you’re just looking for a nicotine buzz, there are certainly cheaper, easier ways to do that. Cigarettes, vapes, pouches, etc.

I'm going to be out of pocket for 2 1/2 weeks or so. When I get back, if someone wants a wide array of samples, I will send them out.
It will help with keeping my wife off my arse about one whole closet being taken up with pipe tobacco .
