Is the gloom really that big of an issue?

Also, what is Tacoma like?

Seattle seems like a beautiful place to live, but, while i don't need to be too close to my family in the south, Seattle is another ball game. Just too far for me.

I have a cousin that lives there. We've visited the past couple years and it's always gloomy. It's kind of depressing actually, but she says they've gotten used to it

Gloom??

My brother has lived there, and the climate is absolutely amazing. It rarely gets hot, it’s not super cold like most other areas at that latitude, and it rarely rains hard (it usually just mists instead of raining hard).

The only drawback of Seattle is the people are super liberal and progressive.

I’ve visited a lot since we have family there. From October through around May, it is indeed often overcast and wet. Not hard rain though.
The winters are not all that cold.

When I’m rich I could live there June through September. It’s amazing

Been there, done that experiment. Glad I tried it, but would never move back. Now visiting the surrounding area? Absolutely. Great hiking, skiing, fishing, national Forest/parks.

It rains from mid/late October through usually end of May. Late June - early Oct it hardly ever rains and is pretty close to a perfect climate. Can get very hot (over 100*F a few Junes I was there) but generally pleasant

i lived 1.5 hours north Seattle, dont forget about winds. Its understated how windy it gets around that area. Absolutely hated the wind storms

Loved the mountain scenery...about the only thing I will miss

Most people I’ve spoken to say they could only last a couple years and they actually start suffering from seasonal depression due to the gloom. All though some say it doesn’t bother them and they absolutely love it.

I don’t think I can afford to buy a house in Seattle so I’d probably be in Tacoma.

That would be South Louisiana.

I'd say probably Northern Alaska. After that maybe Northern Minnesota, and I'm no fan of our weather

It ranks top 5 gloomiest/cloudy cities in US with over 220 cloudy days a year. Some of the other cities with most cloudy days are a few in Alaska and Beckley WV.

Yeah I didn’t even think of North Alaska. They probably have us beat.

Seasonal depression ended up getting to me after living in an area with a similar climate. Even more so having grown up in the South with all the sunshine

Our climate really sucks, to me at least, from about mid-May until late September. It's fine to me the other 7.5 months or so.

I spent a few summers up in Northern Washington in the 90s. I enjoyed it, but maybe it was because it was summer and tolerable to nice to be outside.

This. It’s amazing when you can go outside during the summer and not immediately break a sweat.
