Yep. I will absolutely pass out immediately at the site of a needle going into me

I don't with shots but can when blood is drawn. Best thing to do is suck it up and ask to lay down on table to have blood drawn and I don't have those problems. I've had nurses pick at me for asking but better than passing out from sitting in chair. I give IVs all the time on ambulance and have never had issues b/c they always laying down. When I did clinical rotations in er I remember giving iv with no issues but when drawing blood seeing people fall out if they weren't in bed. Don't see that often now as they always in bed.

Just to add, of the people that pass out it's literally probably 80% middle aged men, black or white. Young males, elderly, and females usually never do.

I do, started years ago while getting fluid drained from my knee. Up until that point I'd never had a problem, now I get light headed, nauseous, and start sweating profusely. A few months ago my daughter needed blood work and just a few seconds in she was out like a light, scared the hell out of me, her and the woman taking the blood.

I watch the needle stick every time. Have had to offer encouragement and give suggestions when they had trouble finding the vein once.

I hated shots and pricks when I was a kid. When I was 4 I even kicked a nurse in the stomach for trying to prick my finger.

But then I grew up because I'm not a bitch

I had a similar experience, often passing out in my youth. I found it so embarrassing that I committed myself to getting over it.

As with any irrational fear, the way to get over it is to consciously expose yourself to it. So I started selling my plasma.

The first phase of progress was not passing out.

The next phase was not clinching during needle entry. Once I got comfortable accepting that, the irrational fear was gone, never to surface again.

I feel bad that I can not donate blood. I start getting weak and nauseous before I get in the door. I wonder if they would take my blood if I got drunk first?

Even if giving blood makes you pass out there are ways around giving and not passing out. What helps is eating prior and laying down flat, crossing your legs while they take the blood. I've passed out a few times doing it, especially if I don't eat beforehand. I've had people pass out on me while taking their blood. Most respectable nurses and doctors won't think much about it. For others on here, it's nothing to be embarrassed about, contrary to what some on here say. It's pretty common overall.

I'm a medic but did clinicals at hospitals as I said earlier. Just the few months I did it I witnessed it happen quite a few times. The men especially were embarrassed, we didn't think anything of it. I was also working with very good doctors and nurses though who happen to respect their patients.

As I've said, let the nurses know you may pass out and ask to lay down. I never had these issues until my late 20s. My wife can go in and have 6-7 vials of blood drawn and then walk out like a boss and drive home. I get 3-4 taken and I'm fricked the rest of the day. And she's supposedly freaking anemic. It sucks, but part of life and overall, if you lay flat, won't bother you as much.

I'm not afraid of it but would prefer not to and will pass out about half the time if I watch.

The thought of a needle penetrating my vein creeps me the f out. Intramuscular shots don't bother me as much. Except for cortisone... that shite hurts.

Wait until that hot nurse has already tried multiple times on both your hands and both your arms and now she and her supervisor are standing there discussing trying to get one started in your neck. Worse yet, you know how much this option sucks because you had one in your next just a week or so ago.
