my great grandmother had it from an early age, it really sucked...it was like she was meeting me for the first time for the last 10 years of her life.

My grandmother had it. Terrible illness. It withers your body away.

My Mom suffered from this during her last years. Sorry to say that it's terrible to see a loved one go through such an ordeal. Towards the end, she didn't recognize anyone. My Mom loved to knit, so she would do that continuously in a pantomime motion.

I wish you and your grandmother the all best.

My grandmother got it at 90 and passed away at 94, it was tough but not THAT bad! She was still her funny arse self but she just didn't remember some things. One example was my mom sold her car when she was in her late 80s and once she got dementia she would be pissed at me for a few minutes every time I saw her because she was convinced I stole her car and sold it!

My grandmother has it. She remembers me, but is convinced we get up to some crazy antics together. She watched a western one night and was telling me the next day how upset she was that we hung "those men." Took me a minute to figure that one out.

Grandpa had dementia/Alzheimer's prior to his passing. It was pretty heartbreaking especially since he lives in South Korea while our family lives in the US. By the time we were able to visit he had no clue who any of us were. The entire time, "Who are you?" "Who are they?" And three years prior we had gone on all sorts of adventures like fishing and hiking on the countryside. Life is short...

My grandmother always remembered me but I had two girlfriends after she got dementia and she ALWAYS thought their names were one of a GF I had like 10 years earlier. She must have really liked that one!

My grandmother has it. She's great in the moment but she will forget later. Even the significant stuff. For example, my grandfather was on his deathbed last week and my aunts and uncles who were in town to say goodbye (and for the funeral) woke her up around 10 pm and told her she should go say goodbye to him. She went down and did that and took about 30 minutes (my aunts and uncles gave her privacy). Then she went back to sleep and he died at 2am. My grandmother doesn't remember saying goodbye.

My father-in-law had dementia and later alzheimers. He went to a nursing home shortly after the dementia diagnosis. On more than one occasion on days when he knew me. He would tell me he didn't want to live like this and to bring him his pistol and a bullet. Of course I couldn't but in a way I felt like I was letting him down for not doing it. He died after about 2 1/2 years in the nursing home.

Lost my favorite aunt and uncle to it. I was so close to them growing up and respected them like no other. The last time I visited them they did not know who I was. It broke my heart.
One thing to remember when you are with her...enter her world when you are with her...don't try to bring her to a place she can't remember. It will be easier on both of you. No matter where she is, your kindness will be appreciated.
God bless both of you... It's difficult to deal with but you still have good memories to hang on to.

Mom has it. And she is only 65.
It fricking sucks big time not being able to have a real conversation with her any more, and likely never again.

Yes my grandfather had it and my grandma had Demensia. I watched them their last two years of life.
After a time they would forget each other. Demensia slowly turns you vegetative and Alzheimer's makes you mean.

It's all really sad.

My grandfather has it. He's in his mid 80s. It's hard to see him now. Cousin were talking one day and she said the grandfather we knew and love died a while back. We've accepted that it won't be much longer.

My grandmother does. It's both very sad and very frustrating.

Yes. They passed away.

Terrible. Amazing the things they remember with perfect clarity though

My granddaddy died of Alzheimer's last August. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever experienced
