My dad lost 50% of his hearing in his right ear from ELP’s set at this show.

That was from the 4th of July, 1977, Day on the Green #5. I was there..It was epic. Outlaws opened, followed by Santana, and then came Lynyrd Skynyrd. They were so insanely incredible, that the headliner who followed them, Peter Frampton, was booed during the majority of his set, with everyone yelling for Skynyrd to come back on stage.

The Day on the Greens was held at the Oakland Coliseum in its original form from '73 to '89. The women usually outnumbered the men 2 to 1. I went to about 6 or 7 between '73 and '77.

The Bay Area was actually a pretty conservative place (despite the Hippies, Black Panthers, Zebras, and SLA) until the mid-'80s. As the Navy and Air Force bases around the Bay Area, closed, and the middle-class took flight to the far edges of the north and east Bay, the craziness of uber-liberalism rushed to fill the void and get a strong foothold.

No, but hit the "Summer Jams" in New Orleans during the 70s.
And the 1st Day of Rock & Roll in the dome in 79.

So true. I was at Sunnyvale AFS from 1981 - 1983. That was the early days of Silicon Valley, so the tech geeks hadn't completely taken over yet. Went to DOTG #3 in 1983 with Madness, The Fixx and The Police.

Check out Heart live in 1978. Anyone who thinks they were just a chick group who did power ballads has no memory of the 70's.

A better question may be who attended this festival.

A lot of big name acts for a concert held in Prairieville, La of all places.
