What did you use to come up with a good offer? True car or just set a price that you wanted to pay?

Most likely new. Looking to get a Subaru, so not really concerned with depreciation since we plan on having it for a very long time.

Use True Car. It's awesome.

Not true at all. I've bought during any random month and always do better than True Car's bullshite prices.

Are you buying outright or trading in an older vehicle?

I bought a one year old Altima from Mercedes Benz of Tampa totally by Email. We agreed to an out the door price and I told him I would be there to pick it up in 1.5 hours.

They kept their word and I kept mine. I tried doing this with other dealers and their total response was "Come on in". I re-stated that I did not want to come in and preferred to do this by email. They refused so I drove to Tampa.

It is your money, your decision, and you are in charge. Simply state what you want, what you will pay out the door, and ask if they will do it. Keep your word and expect them to keep theirs. If they lie, walk away.

Ok. Clean your vehicle up and take plenty of pictures. Don't confine yourself to just local dealers. Email dealerships up to 3-400 miles away and start negotiations. When online, be courteous and be prepared to move along quickly. If you come across as a jerk they will just decline and ignore you. Doing it online will probably keep you from getting the best deal, though, on a new vehicle. Just be up front tell them exactly what you are looking for in the vehicle, what you will take in trade, and then make an offer. If it's an out of state dealership, then you can even negotiate them transporting the vehicle to you and hauling back the trade in. Since you have the time, just negotiate with multiple dealerships until you get the right one and work it hard towads the end of the month.

I prefer researching online and negotiating in person. I have purchased vehicles online before and gotten great deals and had them shipped to me as I mentioned above. Good luck and be patient and don't be afraid to move on to the next salesman. Somebody will always make a deal.

Also, I stopped buying brand new vehicles. I prefer 1-2 year old low mileage trade ins. You can save a lot of money that way.

yep, I have done it a few times. I find that the key is to search online and pick out the exact vehicle that you want. After that, sent out a request to several dealerships specifying the truck that I wanted (it was on one of their lots). some didn't respond and some tried to get me in for a conventional bullshite session. be sure to research and factory incentives that are in place and mention that in your e-mail. I ultimately bought from Jim Taylor Chevy in Rayville and it was the easiest and best car buying experience that I have had.

Yes, but I knew exactly what I wanted. Most dealerships have internet sales managers. Contact them and tell them you are interested in x vehicle. Be ready to buy because you don't need to be contacting them if you're still in the kicking tires part of the process.

Price we wanted to pay. Ended up doing $1k better than the offer we got the day before at a dealership.

They don't want to come down much from the online prices.

I tried, and was lied to. I was negotiating with AutoNation Honda. They told me the price was final, non-negotiable. When I arrived, they tried to dump $750 in fees on top of their price.

Yep get the out of state taxes and all worked out beforehand. Schedule a 1 way flight and they'll pick you up from the airport.

It's pretty easy. I've done it many times.

Got 13k off MSRP on a 2016 GMC 2500 on Dec 26. Made the deal through email and over the phone on Dec 23rd and flew to Little Rock on Dec 26th to pick it up. Easiest car buying experience in my life. I was only at the dealership for 1.5hrs.

I have used Enterprise for used cars.

You shop online. its a set the price. you can choose how widely to search.
there will be a small shipping fee if its more than a 1/2 day drive from the delivery.
bigger fee if you are looking at Miami or Los angeles cars and you are in BR.

They will drive it to your door just like you were renting. You have a week to test drive. $200 restocking fee unless you buy another car.
