I helped an elderly lady that had fallen and hit her head on the parking lot pavement. I couldn't remember what the temperature (in Florida) was that day.. but it was very hot. She was bleeding profusely from her head and she could not get up. She wanted me to help her to the car. I didn't think it was a good idea to drive in that condition. I carried her into Books A Million, grabbed some towels for the bleeding, grabbed some cold water and called for help. EMT's came and got her. She thanked me and I carried on home.. with blood on my tank-top. We didn't catch others names.
It happened last year. I had forgotten about it. It must have been heat exhaustion or something. I was casually walking down the parking lot with the full intent to grab some nice clothes from Express until I saw her helpless on the ground. I was the only one that had attended to her too. Two or three people passed by and never bothered to ask or help.

Not really, but my son and I saw him a couple of years ago and after I introduced my son to him the first thing he said to my son was Hey did you know that your dad shot me?

I had to do the heimlich on a lady that was choking on a piece of salad that she didn't chew up properly at work. Got into a pretty heated exchange with a parent that didn't want to take his kid to the doctor when he was having severe pain in his side (he wanted to leave him at school). After I threatened to call CPS the parent took him to the hospital and apparently his appendix was on the verge of rupturing so probably dodged one there.
Another time we had a kid who was running across the classroom put both of his arms through one of those double paned/wired school windows. Sliced his arms up pretty good but we were able to get enough pressure on the wounds to keep him from bleeding out everywhere. Of all the crazy stuff I've seen working with middle school kids, that one probably scared me the most.

Pulled three teenage girls out of a car back in '77 that had failed to stop at a railroad crossing on Loop Rd. in Monroe. By the time I got to the car there was fire and smoke coming from under the hood. Long story short, about 10 seconds after getting the last girl out and less than twenty feet from the car, there was an explosion under the hood that imploded the front windshield into the car. Shredded the seats with glass.
Did I actually save them, I don't really know but the fire chief, policeman and the parents of the three girls said I did. All I know is that I got pretty weak-kneed after things settled down knowing I came pretty close myself to being a statistic.

about seven months ago at work i saved my boss' life. it was just the two of us in the office and i see him get up, walk in to my office, and he kind of just starts muttering things. all of the sudden he makes this very loud wheezing sound, slowly falls down and bangs his head on the ground. he starts seizing and foaming at the mouth. while i was on the phone with 911 he stopped breathing. i ran over to him and started pushing on his chest (i don't know cpr) and he spit up a whole shite load of foam and started breathing again, although in a very labored manor. eventually got him tilted on his side and the emergency crew got there. turns out he had a seizure and probably would have choked on his spit while he was seizing if i hadn't been there.
while i was on the phone with 911, i actually thought he had died. it was a terrible, terrible experience.
as soon as we got to the hospital, and before he had any idea what the hell was going on, he told me that it was time for me to pick up the slack at work. thanks for nothing.

Many times. But I work in an ER so I have more opportunities than most.

I've talked someone out of committing suicide before, does that count?
Yes and thanks. As an aside, I'm told that in Eastern Philosophies if you do this or even just save someone's life from an accident or whatever, you are then morally responsible for their actions for the rest of the the survivor's life. The moral of the story is to save good people only?

Also, I picked up a dude and dudette about a mile South of Camille Cut (where Hurricane Camillle separated Ship Island into two distinct islands about a mile apart). They had attempted to swim from the West End of Ship to the East End. They were being washed out Southerly by the tide and were just about done for when I spotted them. They offered me some reefer for saving them, they had it in a waterproof bag.

Wow.
I hope she does good things, she's no longer in my life.

I pulled some kids out of the rear window of an SUV that had flipped over on the bridge going to gulf shores. Wouldn't have died but it was still exhilarating. Huge wreck happened directly in front of me. Was out of my car and running before I realized it.

This morning I saved my sons life. I woke up this morning to my 4 month old gasping for air. He thought it would be cool to cover his face up with his blanket. No more blanket for him

Not myself but my dad and uncle definitely saved an older man's life just side of El Paso some years ago. We were heading west on I-10 travelling out of El Paso heading towards New Mexico when we passed over an overpass and seen this elderly gentleman off to the right where he had ran off the frontage road and his car was stuck in the sand. He had spun the tire so much that it was now flat. Anyway, we exit off the next exit and head towards him. Temps that day , early June were certainly in the mid 90s. We get to him and the man is shaking says he just got out of the hospital , says he had had a heart attack and had just been released and trying to get home. He reaches for his pocket and takes out his glycerine pills but is shaking so bad, I can remember him dropping the pills in the sand. My brothers and I pick up the pills , give him some water from our canteen and he takes his pill. Long story short, his spare was the wrong tire, so my Dad gets him in our Blazer and we head to the nearest service station (back in the ole days) and gets him a new tire and Dad and my uncle changes the flat for him and we get his car out of the sand and on his way. Not for sure, but if someone had not stopped, I believe the man would have definitely passed away right there.
