Seems like it would be an exhilarating experience.

I've been part of codes at work.
It's not exhilarating, it's downright scary when you see a kid crash in front of you.

I've seen posters on here talk other posters out of harming or even possibly killing their selves from time to time.

Once, when my younger brother was like 16, he started choking and I did the Heimlich maneuver and cleared his air pipe. He still talks about it to this day and he's in his 40's. I still make fun of him.

Agreed, but you get very calm. Best I have outside of work is I almost gave an old lady the himelic sp? at a restaurant once but she choked up the bone before I started.

Pulled my sister out of a pool when she was two. I grabbed her as soon as she fell in, so she thought it was funny.

I saved an African kid by giving him a quarter a day.

Guy gets shot on lake duck hunting, pick him up in my boat. Take him to landing, put him in truck, rush him to hospital.
Pick kid out of water who couldn't swim.
Don't know if saved, but would have died if I wasn't in the neighborhood.

It's still a little hard to talk about.

A little off topic, but my by some act of fate, my mom has been with 2 individuals in public situations at the moment of their passing. One was a lady who was murdered after being shot 7 times by her ex boyfriend. My mom was a apartment complex manager and saw the entire thing. Rushed to hold the woman until she passed. The second was a motorcycle accident on I-35 in Oklahoma. Watched an 18 wheeler sweep a couple off a Harley at 80MPH. Again, my mom sat with the lady as she went into shock waiting for the ambulance. We found out she died the next day.
Unfortunately neither pulled through, but my mom said there is no words to explain seeing someone who is asking you to do anything possible to save their life and you can't. I can't imagine the joy in helping someone who is hanging onto that last little bit of hope and helping them pull through.

Saved some knocked-out fool from getting killed by a stripper and some bouncers at Temptations.
Dummy wound up going right back up there and getting punked again.

Pulled a boy, well young adult, off the bottom of a lake around thanksgiving about three years ago. He was down for greater than five minutes. Ems got his heart going again but he passed later that night. I felt absolutely worthless until we finally got our hands on him and got him up. Then worthless again when I found out he was gone.
So I guess I didn't save him....
That water was frickin cold.

I pulled a drowning man out once.
I was a lifeguard and this man who was pretty drunk tried to do a Gainer off the high dive. He hit his head and went into the water and started sinking as he was knocked out.
I went to fish him out and about 7 feet underwater he comes to and freaks out. Now he's drowning me and I'm getting the frick beat out of me. I retreat and get spacing, go back in, and purposefully break his nose to stun him. It works and I'm able to spin him and get him up to the surface an then to the side.
He was bleeding like a stuck pig but thanked me. I puked from adrenaline and couldn't get myself out of the water.
Probably the longest 25 seconds of my life. I don't recommend it. I was 16 at the time and he had 100 pounds on me but I swam and played water polo.

Jumped in and pulled my 4 or 5 yr old nephew out of our pool. I was shaking like a leaf afterwards. Thank goodness for all those damn swimming lessons I was forced to take growing up.

When my son was about 1 1/2 he swallowed a nickel. I found him laying on his back with white stuff coming out of his mouth
I turned him upside down and hit him on the back and it popped out. Most scared I've ever been

Weirdest thing I remembered from army days saved my sons life three times in about a one year period.
Thank God part of the EIB was critical care stuff for infants/toddlers.
Eta: that wasn't much of a description. He was choking. Back patting didn't work. Stuff was lodged. Hook and scoop.
