I tried. I was first one on the scene at a wreck. The next guy that pulled up and I tried to save the dude but he was dead already.

My young son (8 years old) however did save a kid from drowning.

10 years as a medic, work at a fire dept that also runs ambulance service. Have done a lot whether on fire ground or ambulance but one that sticks out was arriving on scene to a college age girl wanting to shoot herself. She called it in as panic attack or we would have waited till police secured scene. We got there and I spent 10 minutes talking her from taking gun away from head. She finally put gun down and we called law enforcement. Her friend had opened door to let us in and in next room she sitting on bed with gun in her hand crying. She thanked me when it ended, we transported her to er, not police. She had an abortion and was hanging on to guilt from it.

I'm assuming you're a good medical director, i've only had one who was a complete twat, but the others were the coolest guys ever. Weird you say you run the codes, etc.. thats not how it is here... but you know its different in every state..

If in the field, I let my guys do their job and stay out unless they request help or I see them f'ing up. I try to hang back and not make them nervous. I did have to sit them down after they pick up me and my wife after a 4 wheeler accident. I had a serious head wound but was alert and SEEMINGLY oriented at the scene. I was rendering care to my wife. Gave them report and got in the jump seat. They didn't take history that I'd been knocked unconscious for 15-20 minutes prior to their arrival. I don't remember shite about the accident, the ambulance ride, or 8 hours in the ER. I had no c-collar, no spine board etc. I told them that even with me FOLLOW PROTOCOL!!!! Pretend me or any other medical professional doesn't know shite and strap our arse down if indicated. Wasn't mean about it though. Apparently I was very convincing when I told them I was alright.

I gave mouth to mouth to a fellow with less than ideal hygiene and 400+lbs after he arrested and vomited all over himself. Had to do something. Couldn't stand there with his family looking on. I wiped the vomit off, put that shite out of my head and did work. Got him back. He died a few days later but lived long enough to say goodbye to his kids and grandkids. He wasn't my pt, but had a big arse family. I added about 70 new very loyal good paying pt's thanks to him.
