re: Anyone here ever downsize from a Suburban to a smaller SUV?

Sequoia's are marginally smaller and very inefficient.
I'd look at a Honda Pilot with your criteria. It's a full size SUV but it is significantly smaller than the suburban. It rides like a minivan and has 3rd row you can pop out.
Significantly better MPG than a Sequoia and you get a similar level of engineering.

Good SUV but, too darn small! It's not comfortable to take any type of trip in.
What are you people hauling around that you need a Tahoe or Suburban?

you'll see when you have kids

Does 3 kids mandate that the 3rd row seating be used?

Never personally switched, but I've found that I can fit just as much if not more shite into a minivan than into a full size SUV most of the time.
My wife's sienna is huge inside. We can fold the rear seats down and take the middle row out and it has 8 feet of space. Much more than a Tahoe or suburban. Plus it is a v6 instead of an 8 so better on gas.

My wife and I both made the switch. Both in different directions.
I went from a compact SUV to a 4-door truck. My wife went from a Ford Expedition to an Explorer.
There are pros and cons to both.
I like having more cargo room in my truck, but now it's not "covered" (researching a good cover now)
My wife misses being up high like she was in her expedition. However, it is way easier to park. The cargo issue really isn't that big of an issue for us. With the storage system in the new explorers, the only thing that differs is cargo HEIGHT.
Take it for what it's worth, but vehicles have evolved to accomdate the family, but parking SPOTS haven't evolved

Is it sports equipment or something? I definitely know my Jeep (2 dr) is too small for kids, and I wouldn't want to have to put them in and out of the back seat, but my wife's X1 seems like it would be plenty large enough for 1 or 2 young kids. It's practically the size of a sedan, do no parents drive sedans now?

A minivan is the only other viable option.
I understand other smaller, vehicles have 3rd row seating, but for safety's sake, I don't like them.
He's in the right vehicle now, IMO.

And hold off on the "leasing is stupid" stuff. I own a business and the lease makes sense for tax purposes.
With some makes and/or models a lease makes more sense

You won't get any shite from me, I was just confused about the transition from Suburban to small SUV to sedan before going back to Suburban.

I have some crow to eat about that.
Dang, I hate just purely hate debt and I hate to pay rent, though...
I will say for individuals it is still a really horrible idea.

It's not one thing, you're just bring different shite with you everywhere you go. The basic stuff like car seats and strollers are easy and just stay in there.
I'm sure some do but none of my friend's wives drive anything but SUVs

I went from a Suburban to a Traverse and I don't really miss it. Still has the 3rd row when needed, but can be laid down to extend cargo area. Has a v-6 and can add a tow package.
For a nicer version, see the GMC Acadia

The only issue is when you need the third row for seating AND you need the cargo room.

which Lexus model?

We only have one child, but my wife has a Traverse and likes it. With the Third row down, the cargo area is massive, and if you only need one side of the third row up you can do that too.
I don't love driving it, but it's really not too bad. The V6 puts out decent power. The V8 is the thing I'd miss the most about downsizing from a Suburban.

this is our challenge...our Tahoe is perfect for it all situations
But the darn new one's 65k which is absolutely ridiculous...
I see people driving them all over town, they must make 300k a year, or just have 800 a month car payments and live on the edge smh

Gotcha. The cargo room isn't huge when the 3rd row is up, but isn't overly small either.
Just depends on what you need to put back there.
