Looking at buying a decent amount of stuff from Hurwitz Mintz among other places. Was wondering if I paid in cash if I could do some negotiating.

Won't hurt to try it.

meh - just sit on the cash

They would negotiate more with you if you did not pay cash and financed it with them

That's a good point. I could do that and just pay it off the next day

Talked to a guy that owns a small independent furniture store, said he makes a living selling furniture but he makes a fortune financing it

Yep, just make sure there is no pre payment penalty

Nearly all furniture stores negotiate. Especially shitty places like Ashley, etc.

Wait, you consider hurwitz to be a big box store?

I recently bought a couch at FFO for $600 under the displayed price by providing examples of other retailers selling it at that cheaper price. I took pictures and phone numbers of the places I had found it cheaper as ammunition, they (FFO) even called a couple of the places to make sure it was legit. It never hurts to shop around and compare, especially if you have a preference to buy from one particular retailer whose prices may be a bit high.

Awful advice. Retailers typically take a hefty hit as a finance fee from companies like Wells Fargo. Cash is king.

Bought my oversized leather Lazy Boy glider-rocker direct from a Lazy Boy store. Paid cash and negotiated it down $250-$300.
TL/dr: doesn't hurt to ask

in 1960.
1. Get a great deal by signing up for their financing.
2. Pay it off the next day.
3...
4. Profit

In a thread about negotiating with big box stores, this was the only store mentioned by name.
Reading comprehension and whatnot.

If you go to Louis Mohan in Houma/Bourg they will. The list price is what's on front the sticker. The least they will take is on the back. You need a code word to decipher it though.

I thought so just because of the size of the place, didn't even realize they were locally owned. Negotiating wasn't really an option. At least everything was 50% off. I wouldn't buy one thing in there at their full price. That place must stay at 50% off year round.

There are plenty of other furniture stores with national footprints that can fall under the term "big box stores", yet the only one named in this thread would not be considered one

quote:they have "vip" sales offering huge discounts, but there aren't many deals to be had there unless you buy stuff in the annex upstairs. They are generally way overpriced, but they will negotiate a little bit. I prefer doerr when shopping locally

Then why didn't you just say so?
And frickface? Was that called for? Do you have that Napoleon thing happening and had to lash out from a certain lack, or confusion?
