Has anyone else taken one before and if so where did you go? If anyone needs one or two for delta I'm seeing MSY-DTW-SEA-DTW-MSY for $256

I have a friend who flies into NOLA all the time just for a day to rack up miles. He is self employed so he has the time. I meet him for lunch then back on a plane to Seattle. He claims it works, but I would think he pays about the same for the tickets as he is getting savings in miles.

I would pay good money to not sit on a plane for a few hours so I don't see the benefit.

I did my only one a few years back but it was a segment run. BHM was always sub $220 for me and gave me the 4 segs I needed. Did it in an afternoon

It wasn't that bad... MSY-DCA-CLT-RDU-PHL-BUF then BUF-BOS-DCA-MSY. Think about not having to wait in the general security line at the airport, getting free upgrades to first class, free checked bag, protection if your flight gets delayed or cancelled. If you fly enough, it's well worth it. I've saved several hours of my time this year by not waiting in security lines.

Did you need any mileage or segment runs this year? Remember you mentioning it previously that you'd be short on MQMs... It does look like Delta is having a decent sale now (one of the few of the year for them)

All in first class right? If in coach that sounds like it could be rough

I imagine hell is a lot like an airport. No shot I'm flying around the country for mileage.

I don't fly for "no reason" but I do love a good 2-5 hours in the air where I get no cell reception, can see above the clouds, and have a good book.

Sometimes, if there's no rush and it's cost efficient, i'll take the flight with layovers, just to add a couple of hours of alone time.

Getting extra miles while flying so you can qualify for status. Let's say I'm at 20,000 miles for the year but need 25,000 miles to get gold status on american. I'll take a cheap trip that has at least 5,000 miles (say new orleans-chicago-seattle and back) so I have all the perks of status. Some people take connecting flights instead of flying direct if the price is the same just to get more miles. It's usually in cents per mile (cpm) so anything around 3 or 4 cpm is a good deal

American has a sale right now for DFW to Kuala Limpur for $868 rt. it's 19,500 miles which is 2/3 of the way to gold status. I really considered it but they also sell status bumps at the end of the year for between $400-$600 depending on how many miles/segments you already have. I'll probably be 5 segments short so I'll definitely consider paying $400. Just don't have time for a fun mileage run.

I fly United, and they do their rewards by what you spend, not by miles, so it doesn't seem like it would be worth it.

That's actually not bad. I almost took a status bump at the end of last year for $400 but instead took the segment run. Ended up about the same cost but got to spend some time with a friend and go to a sabres game. If you go all the way to kuala lumpur you might as well make a vacation out of it

Yep - did ATL-SJU-ATL a few years ago on a Saturday in December to maintain Platinum on Delta - got upgraded both ways, and had the same flight attendant both ways - she didn't bat an eye on my return

Delta is having a decent sale right now but I won't hit plat again without a 10K mqm run. I will just downgrade to gold this year
