I’m looking at one right now. I broke 2 vertebrae in my neck a few years ago and it still bothers me. Are they really good for folks with spine issues or is it just marketing/salesperson hype?

Not only have I never been inside a bed of any kind, I could never be in it for ten years. I’d have to get out and stretch at least once.

Here’s the deal though.

I’ve got a Sealy Posturepedic that’s probably 30 years old in the guest bedroom. I had it in college. If I go sleep on that mattress, I wake up and there’s no pain. I don’t wake up, and my arm isn’t numb at all the next morning. That’s what’s been making me think this memory foam is crapping out.

He said it was a pinched nerve, caused by a tendon pressing on nerve, only occurring during sleep. Orthopedic diagnosed it, said it’s not uncommon. Similar to carpal tunnel.

However, if you are getting this pain in both arms then it might not be the case. He only had it happen in same arm. The odds of it happening in both are long. Maybe test to see if you get the pain on other mattresses. The next time you are out of town or at your sidepiece’s place notice if you still have the pain. That might help verify if it’s your arm or the mattress.

I’ve had my temurpedic 9 Years with no signs of wearing out. If you were sleeping on your arm and causing peripheral nerve palsy it shouldn’t last for hours. Sounds like your neck is the culprit. Pinching nerves can creep up on you, may actually just be your pillow wearing out as that’s more likely that the matttess being your problem. I see this sort of problem all the time.

You got it.

Sorry for unnecessary alarm. Sounded so similar at first reading.

I don’t remember where I heard it or if it’s true but I don’t go longer than 8 years. Any mattress. Usually replace at 6.

I’m guess the issue is the pillow and that it’s a neck/nerve problem.

The pillow has always been the problem for me with this damn bed. I can’t find a good one. I’ve tried sleep like the dead, sobakowa, the tempurpedic pillows, feather.....just about everything. I’m about to just sleep on the floor.

I’ve had mine for 14 years. Hardly ever rotated it and there is less than 3/4” body impressions where I sleep. Been a great investment.

They live up to their claims.

I know a few years ago you could get your doctor to write you a prescription for a Tempur-Pedic and not have to pay taxes on it. Considering how much they cost it’s worth asking if this is still available.

Could also be medical. Maybe you have a partial artery blockage and the way you sleep makes circulation cut off much easier?

You heard it from your local mattress salesman.

Had ours for about 14 years. No problems. Bought ours from a friend who owns a high dollar furniture store. He convinced us to buy the cheapest model available, because there is no benefit to the high dollar models.

Or maybe the highest margin is in the cheapest model. Didn't ask for details.
