Do you do this on the side? If so, how much do you charge? Is it worth getting your notary public? I live in a big city (Nashville) and I've thought about doing this for some extra side cash (OT poor)

I am not.

However, I can go to a local UPS store and there's always one on hand. They charge next to nothing, I think something like $5. I can't imagine it would be worth the trouble unless you're doing massive volume.

The pass rate for the LA notary exam is like sub-20%.

It wouldn't hurt to have it. I remember looking into it years ago, but I forget what is all involved. You have to take a test right? How much does it cost (time & money)?

It's really a matter of convenience these days. People I know that have it only use it for work.

It's gotten easier since they changed it in 2012. From 2009 to 2011, the pass rate was never higher than 9%. At one point, only 2% of people passed.

I went get a boat purchase notarized last week, spend 15 minutes in the office and she charged us $30, thats for the boat, I have to go back and pay another $30 when the trailer title comes in. Definitely good money in it, lots of shite needs to be notarized. From what I understand its a pretty tough test in LA, not sure about TN.

Actually, as was posted here earlier, it's a pretty hard test.

Used to see Notaries telling attorneys that it wasn't fair that all they had to do was pass the Bar Exam to be a notary.
