Anyone have loved ones in nursing homes?

My mom had stroke a year ago and is paralyzed on her left side . I was going every night to check on her and visit. Now I can only look at her through a window and the aides act like it’s a hassle to open the blinds. She is getting very depressed and doesn’t really understand why we are not coming inside.... this is really working on me and my sister also

Can you not talk to her on phone while looking in window?

This might be the worst part of this, people with loved ones they can't access, and not being able to help them fully understand why.

I’m so sorry. That is heartbreaking. I hope everything gets back to normal soon so you can be by your mom’s side.

My mother in law had knee surgery and is doing recovery in a nursing home. No visitors allowed, she is lonely as heck

Yes
I am not happy, we were not given an option of window visiting.
We cannot drop off food or snacks & they are refusing to bring laundry to us.
We were told they would get it done & hope it gets back to him.
We were told not to visit last Thursday, they finally quit feeding residents together in the dining hall Sunday.
That’s fine if I can’t go in, but staff needs to be quarantined.
There is no difference in me visiting & the trailer park queens that work there going in & out & bringing in their to go food.
It’s all optics to make it look like they are doing something.
My Grandpa didn’t get breakfast until 10:00 yesterday & it’s only going to get worse as employees don’t show.
He will be 94 next Saturday & I am devastated at not being to be with him on his birthday as is the rest of my family.
We cannot even take him a slice of cake.

Sucks for you.
My grandmother was there for about 6 months.
She died two years ago.
Glad she didn’t have to deal with this.
There were some really good women in there taking care of her but there was also some shitty POS workers in there too.
It’s a taxing job dealing caring for the elderly and or people who mentally and or physically can’t take care of themselves.
I watched it first hand everyday for several months.

Grandma had a stroke two weeks ago, partial paralysis of left side, spent a week at UAB, then transferred to an inpatient rehab facility in Montgomery(closer to her home) that weekend.
Since last Thursday they closed the facility to outside visitors, and yesterday, my grandma refused to eat, and refused any pt. She is depressed. My mom and aunt are freaking the frick out. Its depressing me, quite frankly, but I am trying to keep a positive attitude.
I tried to call her yesterday on the phone in her room, and I kept getting through, I could hear her mumbling initially, and would say "hey grandma its ft8, your grandson" or whatever, but idk if she couldn't hear me, or she was just out of it, because she wouldn't respond. Just told her that I love her and am thinking about her always. Will try again today.

Yes.
Just went on lockdown. No one in. No one out.
Can bring supplies
Residents can leave for doctor appointment

Very sorry for your loss, I hope your family was able to be with her.

My maw maw is in assisted living and it really sucks because we usually visit her throughout the week.

With the nursing home staff in the nursing home van.
According to my mom the pretty much insinuated if you even showed up to Dr. appt that the resident would be kicked out.

Yes, a MIL who is rehabbing from an injury. On lockdown for a week now. The correct decision obviously, but difficult to deal with.

Yeah, was going to boil some crawfish this weekend and my dad was bringing my Maw Maw. Now neither of them are coming. I hope I get to see her and hold her hand again before she leaves us. It would be sad for her to go out all alone in a place like that.

These type of stories break my heart. Don’t worry we’re going to beat this thing. We always do. Soon enough you will be able to see your mother again. Stay Strong. God Bless.

quote:yes but her speech is slurred since her stroke so it’s difficult. Their is probably 150 elderly people there ,some didn’t have anyone visit them so I became friends with a few on her hall. I had a camera installed so I can look at her which gives me some piece of mind. There is only one other person with a camera in their room because the facility will not let you use their WiFi ... so it’s kind of expensive but I’m glad I had it installed, worth every penny
