Tandem kayaks (tandem anything really) are relationship killers imo.
ETA: I have a single and tandem inflatable kayaks. Haven't used them in a couple of years. I won't ever take the tandem one out with another person...just is great to have to take your dog with you

What model Old Town? They make different models that are better suited for different purposes.
And there’s a lengthy ongoing thread on the OB dedicated to kayaking (mostly fishing). You’ll get good info there

Got a relative who kayak fishes in the Gulf and he loves it. I’ve dabbled but there’s no way in hell I would kayak past the point of not seeing land. No sir-ee.

Yea we got a couple last year and take them out occasionally. I'd love to go do some wild water rapids again in Tenn. Nothing like that around here. Lakes it's pretty blah. Rivers and springs are far more fun.

Also where are some legit places to go taking in Tennessee and Arkansas as I'll be in those states in a little over a month.
If you're in Northwest Arkansas the Buffalo River is nice to kayak. Just went with some friends a couple weeks ago for Memorial Day and it was beautiful. It's a national river so it's managed by the feds and they do a good job of keeping it pristine.

Take your kayak to a spring lake in Arky or Florida. Beautiful crystal clear water, slow current. Just cruise along, pack an ice chest with you, and take in the beauty of the natural environment under water

Hope you have the experience and wisdom not to make fatal mistakes.
One of the books about Tennessee Streams and Rivers has the very descriptive term "decapitation rock" because the water goes under a stone and there's no room for a boat or a head.

There's a reason me and my friends call them "Divorce boats".

I enjoy it when I get some time to myself. Used to catch all sorts of stuff on the Teche when we were living in St Martinville. Got me in a couple hairy situations with some good ol boys that thought I was running their trotlines.
I'd go more, the area right here around Clear Lake TX has some really good streams and creeks that are away from recreational boaters. That's about the biggest danger when you're on a kayak around here. Almost had one of those wake boats sink me in Clear Creek earlier this year.

My husband and I used the tandem one in Lake Tahoe a few years ago for 4-5 hours to paddle out to Emerald Bay. Never again. We argued half the time because my husband was mad I wasn't perfectly synced to his paddling.

Expert kayakers love the Ocoee River north of Chattanooga. I've done some whitewater rafting there and it's a blast, but not for the novice kayaker.
