What are the immediate benefits of SD and are there any potential negative side effects?

To my knowledge there has been 1 death in a commercial float tank. The user was into John Lilly and was on ketamine while floating.

The science on floating is very new. There is a division of the Laureate Institute for Brain Research totally devoted to studying floating but it has only existed for 3 years. So the data of their early research is just coming back. Floating seems to "shut down" certain parts of the brain (the default mode network and the amygdala) that are responsible for anxiety, depression, fight or flight. The default mode network is a system of two connected parts of the brain that decides what information coming in is important.
Hyperconnectivity correlates to anxiety. Connectivity is significantly reduced post-float. You also have a 90% reduction in gravity so your skeletal system gets a break. And the magnesium is good for muscle aches.
Anecdotally, I've reached some very deep meditative states in the tank and experience things that are very similar to the effects of psychedelics.

What place did you go to in Nola?

No. Why would I want to remove my senses. I'd rather take acid and increase my senses.

Joe Rogan gave an interview where he discussed taking LSD in a sensory deprivation chamber. He claims it was life altering because you lose all sense of time. Your brain also has trouble sensing where your skin ends and the water begins so it is constantly firing off the nerve endings.
This is based on his interview, I have never been in a deprivation chamber.

That is not a real thing. It is one of those made up Hollywood ideas like Midevil Times or objections at weddings.

Apparently there's one in Bossier and one opening in Shreveport. Never tried it though. Want to watch the movie "Altered States" before I go.

I haven't taken LSD in the tank but have done high doses of edibles and experienced something very very much like a DMT flash.

I loved the Charles Haid character "Mason" from that film.

I get blind folded sometimes during sex. Does that count?

So would you say that your chambers are worth a shot for someone who experiences anxiety/panic attacks?

Absolutely. The effects on the brain are the same as anti-anxiety medications. I would qualify that a bit. Go somewhere that has a modern cabin/room style tank. They're not as intimidating as the traditional tanks. And talk to the person on the phone to get a sense of them. Most people in the industry are very thoughtful but not all. I think if you're floating for anxiety/panic attacks/ptsd then you need to feel well informed. I make sure anyone getting into our tanks feels as comfortable as they can.
