I listen to pandora throughout my entire workday and the stations take some odd turns to where I wonder...how did it get here.

My most recent station started out with some modern soul .... it's now playing slipknot

Nope, we set up a Reggae station and Pandora plays all six Reggae songs, over and over until we turn it off.

I have a video game music channel I listen to and Foo Fighters showed up all of the sudden. Not a bad inclusion, but Pandora has done that to me from time to time.

I swear John Mayer has stock in Pandora. A song of his came on when I was listening to "Third Eye Blind Radio"

That doesn't seem too unusual of a "related artist" tbh

It's continuously adapting your channels based on what you upvote, down vote, and skip...you're essentially fine tuning them each channel every interaction. It's also influenced by what other people listening to that station like and dislike. And it's fed by the Music Genome Project which basically rates each song a number of variables that determines what stations it gets played on.

(I'm trying to get a job at Pandora, so I've done some research on the platform.)

How do you jam to Super Mario theme music? I’d have never guessed that would be a musical genre. Guess you learn something new every day.

You clearly have never heard the game radio segment on KLSU.

Pretty bad arse tunes in there.

Do you mess with the thumbs up or down at all?

I don't really "jam" to it, and there are more games than Mario. The assassins creed and final fantasy games have great soundtracks.

The last interview I heard with John Mayer was about his joining of Dead and Company. Said he was hooked on the Grateful Deal when "Althea" randomly came on while he was listening to.. wait for it.... Pandora.

Nice little namedrop for the company that you part own. The OT is on to you, John.

Pandora has been cutting out on my lately from time to time.

and yes, it has gotten very predictable . I even set up one channel and didn't up or downvote anything so as not to establish the seeds. After awhile, same stuff over and over. Getting tired of it.

You can add other artists to one of your existing stations to bring some additional flavor and further refine the song list.
