You mean there were neighborhood schools where people actually went to school where they lived?

Sounds like a good system.

Yeah it was mostly a troll.

A new school district or whatever is all that seems to be needed.

Apparently that's racist or something.

Although I've never heard it referred to as such in Texas.

My jaw dropped when I moved to Baton Rouge for college from Texas and learned about all the bussing. I couldn't fathom how dumb it was.

The signatures have slowed, but at 17k of 18k needed thats not much of an issue.

A certain number of the signatures are bound to be thrown out, plus they haven't accounted for the list of people that have signed another petition wishing for their names to be removed. They've said they want to reach 20,000 signatures to have a buffer because they know 18,000 won't really be enough.

Plus if they were averaging over 2500 signatures a month last year and they're only at 17,000 now, they must be averaging well under 1000 signatures a month recently. So yeah, it is an issue.

I just said that on FB. Three words. I S D. That's all they want here. Tax each one how you want. Higher taxed ISDs usually have the best schools. Choose to live in the ISD or not. End of story.

Most people go to school where they live now. The "forced bussing issue" is so overblown, it's a joke. This isn't about allowing the "middle class" kids to go to school where they live. It's about kicking poor people out of the schools that the middle class (white) families want all to themselves.

You mean the elements that seem to cause a disproportionate amount of trouble in the schools?

Ask the blacks that graduated from McKinley during this time. They'd say it was.

Because I'm discussing it on a discussion board? I thought that's what discussion boards were for. Do you assume that anyone who forms an opinion about a public issue is "upset"?

Well, at least you admit that that's what this is about. If the leadership of the movement would be as honest as you, the discussion would probably be a lot more fruitful.

So,you prefer having 100% shitastic schools for everyone that utilizes public schools than actually having good schools here and there? Because that's what you'd get if you had true neighborhood schools and ISDs. You would actually see some good public schools in the Baton Rouge area.

If Houston went to the Baton Rouge way schools in Katy, Woodlands, Tomball, Cy Fair would all go down the crapper with quickness and join the crappy HISD schools.

You're so full of shite. I would never send my BR public schools. Mixing different demographics/cultures/classes doesn't work, for the most part. It just doesn't. You're blind as a fricking bat if you can't see that.

Well, no need to get mad. Cheer up! Maybe one day they'll invent a time machine and you can go back to 1950's when your views weren't considered outdated.

No, just you, seeing as you are trolling 2 boards on this issue saying the exact same thing. If it's such a "joke" then why are you posting about it on 2 boards and why is today after the airing of this program, the first time you've actively posted about it.

You know that this pbs program sealed up the votes needed.

Did russian get banned, because you sound just like him.

You're living in a fantasy land brother. You're idealistic views and trouble with coping with the reality of the situation shows how big of an idiot you really are.

Do I want kids who statistically cause more trouble bussed across the city to help destroy a school that would likely be better without bussing? Damn skippy.
Do I want to keep capable, dedicated students who pose no disciplinary problems out of programs that could help them? Not at all. Let them apply for positions by merit.

But bussing a bunch of ne'er-do-wells for multiple hours in the name of "diversity" helps NO ONE.
