I can not disagree with this more. I do not recall many, if any, O&G peeps bragging about their earnings
Maybe not if you're old, but being 25 and in Texas I've seen a bunch of kids I went to high school and others that I just know that didn't go to college because they were idiots in high school so they went to work out in the fields and were buying $20,000 boats, new F-250's with a 6' in lift, while they lived in a freaking trailer.
Those are the people that I can't help but laugh it. Obviously not all people were flaunting it, especially the older individuals who aren't idiots. I didn't think we'd have to distinguish that, but apparently some think it's an all or nothing kind of thing.

The fact of the matter is, there needs to be more effort in reducing the cost of extraction and production. I understand it's difficult and costly to operate, but in a free economy system, someone will always move in and find a way to do it cheaper.
what the hell do you think fracking is?

I don't think we should have elevated oil prices just to support the elevated lifestyles of the O&G industry.
Please present your proof that prices are elevated to support the elevated lifestyle you allege.
Then, lets define "elevated lifestyle"! What is this? A Suburban? An F250? A jet? Bass boat? How can you (and who are you) to determine what elevated is? I can assure you we could take a public poll of this term and get no agreement on the definition.

but do you not understand that this isn't limited to O&G workers? Show me a young person who makes a shite ton of money for the first time (hell, show me an old person for that matter) and its not unique that they manage their money poorly. This happens regardless of the industry involved. Its why you shouldn't paint with the broad brush. Nor should you revel in the other person's misfortune.

It's all good man. I have a tendency to not make myself clearly occasionally

It's the same as any commodity based profession. Farmers gripe about the price of a crop, just as miners gripe about the price of gold/diamonds/coal. I think the difference we're seeing here is the fact a lot of these workers are new to the industry and felt secure in the sense that they didn't think we'd see oil get this low. You had a lot of folks that were mapping out a better life for themselves with no fall-back plan. I don't fault them for venting, and I do feel bad they lost their jobs, but nothing is certain in life. Always have a back-up plan.

"I'm so tired of hearing about this subject! Here, let me take some time and start a thread about it that will promote more discussion about it." fricktard

Bruh, I make pretty solid money for being 25 and now I don't do that shite because I want to be stable in a situation exactly like this, should it end up something like 2008. I also grew up in an upper middle class family, so maybe it's just how I was raised.
But mostly, I'm just not a fricking idiot so I don't act like that.

No one was concerned that the high price of gas a couple years was messing up my job and got me relocated to Yankee Land for 2 of the most shitty years of my life. F'em. I hope the gas drops another dollar a gallon. I have enough work to last me till I retire in 20 years.

And people don't realize that this is happening due to countries intentionally messing with the market.
Bingo!
This is the one fact that nobody talks about in these threads. For the first time in our nations history we have created technology that would allow us to become totally energy independent in a few years. We would not have to depend on terrorist nations anymore for our oil supplies. We are building expansions to plants to refine these products from our own country and liquefy natural gas to be exported as well.
We were well on our way to these goals of self sustaining energy supply and to becoming a major supplier of the worlds energy.
But the terrorist nations are flooding the markets with access amounts to purposely put American businesses out of work and force the industry to shut down...the people who are out of a job are unemployed because of these nations actions...not energy companies inflating prices or whatever the frick is being said.
They are purposely fricking us right up the arse and everyone in the country is so happy to save some money on gas that they don't give a shite...These bastards are deliberately killing American business interest that has the potential to change our country for the better in a few years.
Nobody wants 4.50 gas prices, but the market had fixed itself over the last couple of years since the technology exploded and more and more competition got into the business, and the prices had leveled themselves out.

Is this a Louisiana thing? I see people talking about truck nuts all the time on this forum when oil field people come up
I don't notice any truck nuts here in Texas. I'm sure they're out there but it isn't that prevalent IMO

There aren't really. It is just a wonderful call to emotion for people trying to stir up hatred against oilfield workers

I'm obviously pro-O&G as you can see with my post history, but it drives me nuts to hear this get repeated from the O&G folks.
The fall from $100 to $40 can basically be blamed on the US and the US only. Why should we expect the Saudis to voluntarily decrease their output so the US can keep making money? The US has had far and away the biggest increase in output in the world, yet we want to blame OPEC?
That shite isn't going to fly. We can "close" our valves just as easily as Saudi, so I'm not sure why people act as though we have this God-given right to keep oil flowing and they should make adjustments on their end.

I'm loving the price drop. I was sick of trying to order Truck Nutz and constantly being put on backorder.

Well to be fair, if producers here shut-in their wells then the leases terminate shortly thereafter. That means the company has to write off a bunch of money and can't easily re-open production.
Additionally companies here have shareholders and loans to pay off. Aramco is not financed like a public company.

All true, but it is also information that was widely known before the supply glut. The US is responsible for the supply glut - I don't see how that is really debatable.
O&G companies and the banks that fund them made a bunch of decisions based off of assumptions that Saudi would play ball and they were wrong. I have a hard time faulting Saudi for that, despite my pro-oil stance.

Maybe they should have thought about the volatility of their chosen field before they bought the expensive bay boat and the 3/4 ton 4x4 pick-up truck.
