Of those who don’t think rap sucks, there are those that can’t understand a damn word of what he said. I am in the latter camp. I don’t dislike rap, I just like the stuff that I can actually make out the lyrics of.
I mean, that just makes you a dumbass

You don't have to personally enjoy it, but calling Kendrick mumble rap is unhinged. It'd be like someone calling Guns N Roses "death metal"
And there were people who responded the same way to G&R. It all depends on what type of music people follow and what they pay attention to. If you don't listen to rape and have no idea that Kendrick Lamar is "beefing" with Drake then all of that shite looks stupid.
To people who didn't listen to hard rock, they just saw a bunch of long haired dudes jumping around on stage.

Drake and Lamar got into some fight. Lamar insinuated Drake was a pedophile. He dropped a song alluding to it. Drake sued him and his record label for releasing the song. Lamar then drops another song directly calling Drake a pedophile with the titular line being “You’re trying to strike a chord, I bet it’s A minor”
The song wins 5 Grammies and then Lamar performs at the Halftime show.
Lamar also got Drake’s ex Serena Williams to dance on stage to the song.
Pretty awesome by Lamar if you ask me from a frick you standpoint.

Lyrical genius? Not even close
Inside message? Yes that went over most of our heads.
I’ll be honest after reading the hundreds of threads about how horrible the halftime show was, I went and watched it on YouTube. I was expecting some awful barely watchable garbage. It was generic mumble rap with some not so bad choreography. So I went and googled the symbolism everyone on Twitter was freaking out about.

The halftime show itself wasn’t anything special it was just generic mumble rap with hip hop choreography. The story behind it is interesting enough if you are into that culture.
People complaining about it are either too old or too stupid to understand why they shouldn’t be upset.
Mumble rap isn’t any worse than bro country or hickhop or the Foo Fighters.
All that said, it should’ve been Cash Money if they wanted to go that route.
It should’ve been a tribute to The Meters and Dr John if you wanted to showcase actually unique New Orleans music.

The messenger failed to deliver an understandable message. I read the lyrics. The "message" is a garbled mess. Basically, he failed on all fronts.

It should be more special and less generic for the “big game”.
It was really people who like quality singing and performing. Most couldn’t understand it due to poor production or poor english pronunciations or both. Shouldn’t have to google the symbolism to know what is going on with a live halftime performance at the Super Bowl.
It was also people who felt the music of New Orleans should have been featured more.

He literally mumbles rap lyrics. You may argue it’s not technically mumble rap it’s flow rap or whatever.

More like people arguing whether GnR are glam rock, hard rock, or Metal. In a way each can be correct.

Kendrick Lamar is actually what Boomers should want in a rapper. He isn’t rapping about blunts, 40s, and bitches—he is all about a positive message. He’s very talented. I don’t listen to much of his stuff, but he isn’t some POS, No Limit Soldier about to be brought up on racketeering charges.

I do have to question the intelligence of anyone who didn’t understand the ham-fisted symbolism of it
The Drake line is more akin to a popsicle stick joke than some sort of genius level lyricism

I completely agree and I don’t think Lamar is any more talented than any other generic hip hop artist that mumbles barely discernible lyrics over a drum loop.

I guess. There have been a slew of dogshit halftime shows that last decade or so. This wasn’t any better or worse than the other dogshit halftime shows for the NFL’s current dogshit product.
If anything; it was fitting.
A watered down generic censored version of a genre people used to enjoy and now thrives off nostalgia and habit as entertainment for a watered down generic censored product of a professional sport people used to enjoy and now thrives off nostalgia and habit.

The funniest part about this is the people complaining are the same people that say they don’t watch the NFL anymore.
They take every chance they get to get on some fake moral high ground about how they don’t watch and then want a halftime show catered to their musical tastes. Not the commercial target market that actually says they’re going to watch the product.
It’s so stupid it makes my head spin

I have a liberal niece in Louisiana that teaches high school music. She beat me up pretty bad over the rap. I sent her several pages of sheet music for rap, classical, country, soul etc and asked her to rank regards musicality, vocal range, lyrics etc. I have not heard back
